    Degenerate Masters Contest 2022

Hey, haven't seen the thread for this, but it's that time of year again! I don't have the rules handy, but let's get this degenerate contest rolling.

Can someone post the rules again? 30 total OWGR "points" to pick a team, etc.

We should do it just to see if anyone is daring enough to pick Tiger

mkirsh usually runs the thing and totals the "points" to determine our winner. Here are the rules he placed in the thread for the 2021 Masters picks:

    1. Select of team of as many golfers as the "salary cap" allows
    2. The salary cap is 30 points - use them wisely!
    3. Each player's "cost" against the salary cap is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Scottie Scheffler "costs" 8; Collin Morikawa - 7; Dustin Johnson - 5; etc.
    4. Anyone whose OWGR points is less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
    5. You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
    6. Your final score is based on the total money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get $0 for that player.
    7. As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).
Picks need to be posted to this thread by the first tee-off time on Thursday morning.

any over/unders on how many stupid things Nantz says, or does that go beyond our ability to count? He's warming up his cliche' gun as I write this.

Yes, you all beat me to it. Guess some people are looking for anything to take their mind off hoops (which I totally get)!

I will run the pool again with the rules JE posted.

Very interested to see if 1) Tiger plays (will be shocked if he doesn't at this point); 2) how many people pick him (I have to say, for 2 points and all the buzz about how he is swinging it I have to at least consider), and 3) how he actually does (nothing would surprise me with him at this point - he could WD on day 1 or tie Jack with his 6th green jacket Sunday).

One thing that strikes me about this year is that there are no dominant players. In year's past, the OWG rankings would have several guys at 9 or 10 or even 11 points. Heck, I think one time it cost 12 points to take DJ. But right now, the players at the top are much lower (which means they are not as consistently great).

Scheffler, Rahm, Morikawa, and Hovland are the only players who cost 7 or more points.

Leaving a point out there unclaimed. Ballsy strategy.

Okay, so as to not look like I'm an mkirsh copycat, here's my team:

    Cam Smith (6)
    JT (5)
    DJ (5)
    Koepka (4)
    Fitzpatrick (3)
    Zalatoris (3)
    Conners (2)
    Woods (2)

    Winning score: -14

ETA: turns out my team now looks like a mix of mkirsh and JasonEvans teams...

I am so sorry to hear that. You are doomed to failure, I fear.

My biggest struggle was picking two of the four 5 pointers I considered (the other 2 were DJ and Schauffele - I am sure they will finish 1-2 now).

Cantlay was very much in consideration for me. In the end, I decided to go with JT over Cantlay, which allowed me an extra 3-point guy (in this case Zalatoris) instead of a 2-point guy (Lowry or Scott).
