In 1938, Britain & France told Czechoslovakia to give the Sudentenland to Hitler to keep peace. How'd that work out?

Ahh, Bruce Fein, I don't think there has been a President he wouldn't impeach.

Bruce is trying to keep alive a conservative ideology that died with Pat Buchanan’s presidential aspirations. That guy must be a starved for column inches.

The best thing to do with articles like this is to not share them and not give whomever is hosting them the clicks and ad impressions they are after. Just let them wither on the vine of disinterest.

I get what you are saying, but vigilance is essential in a democracy. I'd rather be informed about what's going on outside my doorstep. Though it often makes me want to stay inside.

    Return of the Russian Leviathan

Here's my mini review of Sergei Medvedev's "The Return of the Russian Leviathan," which is interesting and, though written in 2017, pretty on-point.

A Russian patriot’s guide to the perversions of Putin and his era. It all starts with the deep sense of loss and, well, emasculation, felt by many Russians following 1989. For many Russians, the fall of the USSR was less about communism and more about the end of the Russian Empire, the shrinking of their presence on the map and in world politics. This pathology is not entirely new, as seen in the often-unseemly ends of the empires of Britain, France, and Portugal, to name just a few, but the death rattle of the Russian empire is most important in today’s politics. Let’s hope they grow up in a decade or two.

Had a fascinating chat with a Russian expert who works for the Senate over Thanksgiving...the mega corruption in Russia now has just overwhelmed their military, not that they can't do considerable damage, but a well stocked, well oiled machine they are not.

I'm glad someone else asked this. I was afraid budwom would think I was a little too concerned about his underwear.

Corruption and a massive phlegmatic bureaucracy is what led to the downfall of the USSR in the first place.

Indeed. But much was also made of Russia's military modernization effort (https://www.brookings.edu/opinions/p...-its-military/) and much of that money, if not most, ended up in the pockets of the various Garks.

I don't remember seeing this discussed, but if Putin were to kick off or step down, would that be the opening for the Russians to pull out of Ukraine, or do the underlings want to keep parts of Ukraine as well?

...he is suffering ‘cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, as a result of which he already experiences serious problems with digestion’ – and the fall caused an ‘involuntary’ reaction.

‘Before the examination, the doctors escorted the president to the bathroom and helped to clean up.’
