Gary Brooker of Procol Harum dead at 76

Brooker co-wrote and sang "A Whiter Shade of Pale", a song almost everyone in the world knows and recognizes immediately. He's now skipping the light fandango in heaven.

    Here's a neat live version from 2006.

Another voice from my youth silenced. R.I.P.

Much more than a one-hit wonder. Their album A Salty Dog is a masterpiece, IMO. Saw them in Cameron in early 1970s. Even though they had a marvelous guitarist--at the beginning--in Robin Trower, Procol Harum and The Band made keyboard-led bands cool.

I saw Procol Harem in concert at the Fillmore East along with The Byrds on June 28, 1969. Cherished memories. It's always a sad moment -- and sobering reminder -- when we see another fine musician and member of our generation pass from the scene.
