'When I got on the bus for my first road game at Duke, I saw that every player was carrying textbooks or laptops. I coached in the SEC for 25 years, and I had never seen that before, not even once.' - David Cutcliffe to Duke alumni in Washington, DC, June 2013
Thanks for the great season preview, Jim. There's much to look forward to with plenty of returning talent and a Top-10 incoming class featuring SS Alex Mooney who is the highest ranked prepster who did not turn pro.
I see Duke is ranked #23 in the D1Baseball Pre-Season Poll:

Weather permitting, I’ll see them next weekend in Waco.
I know that recruiting has changed a lot and that kids are committing younger and younger but I didn't realize quite how young it was. My wife was talking to some other parents at one of my kids games recently and they mentioned that a local kid (I live in NYC) in his early teens they knew from a private school here had committed to play baseball at Duke. I was skeptical did some googling and saw that this was indeed true, and that he is currently a freshman in high school - Duke currently has three commitments from freshmen according to this site (including one named Zion).

So not only do the baseball coaches have to worry about whether their recruits will be drafted and not even show up, but they are out recruiting kids who are not even in high school yet. Tough job.
Great preview, Jim. I’m looking forward to following the team again this season.

Anyone know the status of Henry Williams, our promising pitcher that was injured last year?

Johnson goes 4 1/3 giving up 8 hits and 5 runs - very poor outing for our ace. Lefty Josh Allen in and immediately gives up a rbi double. 5-1 VMI.

Watching DWBB against UVA was more fun.
(At least Duke baseball has a whole season in front of them.)

7th inning stretch time, the mighty VMI Cadets are as unstoppable as WF men's basketball in the last 10 minutes and Virginia women's basketball for the entire game, they lead 10-3.
