My daughters still give me grief because when they were teenagers, I would make them listen to "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" before letting them go out on a date.

This was my compromise, as originally I told them they were not allowed to date until they were 37 years old.

    His name is Robert Paulsen.

Sorry for the poor quality, but the longer version of this scene is NSFW.

“That” is something that can’t be mentioned in a family forum like this.
Sorry to hear of this…Bat Out of Hell is a pretty darned good collection of rock anthems.

TMZ reporting that he was very ill with COVID:

(While I would not normally cite TMZ as a news source, this kind of info is what they do).

Supposedly, he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome after his heart attack in 2003. To NOT be vaccinated would have been especially stupid, but it appears to be the case.

    Very sad.

I haven't seen any verification that he was not vaccinated.

No but he was very outspoken against vaccine mandates and no one has said that he WAS. Usually they are quick to confirm that. You are correct, I am just guessing, which I suppose I should not do. My apologies.

I'll be honest that folks who are have a serious illness should get a pass on taking or not taking the vaccine.

My Dad decided not to get vaccinated. He heard some of the stories about side effects and folks feeling bad and decided he didn't want to waste what time he had left recovering from a vaccination. He didn't leave the house except to go to the doctor, so really didn't care. If it was his time, it would be his time. He knew getting COVID would be a death sentence if he caught it. He passed last August from a heart attack without ever getting the COVID.

edit: Looked up Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, I see it's not a serious illness.

Another voice from my youth gone. Bat Out Of Hell came out my sophomore year in high school, just what a hormone-ravaged teenager needed. One of the top-10 selling albums of all time, and possibly among my personal top-10, certainly top-20. I'll take this opportunity to share one of my favorite things I found on the internet:

I remember how the NY Times ran an article on him decades ago and referred to him as Mr. Loaf.

Hot Patootie, bless his soul, he really loved that rock and roll...hope he's jamming in heaven.

Sorry to see anybody go, but his music never appealed to me. I suppose I was in the minority. RIP, Meatloaf.

Meat Loaf's death comes almost 9 months after the death of Jim Steinman, the man who wrote and produced both Bat Out Of Hell and Bat Out Of Hell 2, which are the albums for which Meat Loaf is best known. There would likely have never been a Meat Loaf without Jim Steinman... and I'm not sure there would have been a Jim Steinman without Meat Loaf. Steinman had other hits -- including Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart and Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing at All, but his most notable work were in collaboration with Mr. Loaf.

In honor of Meat Loaf's passing, I am gonna post a poll on this thread of your favorite Meat Loaf song. Hope this list works for nominees:

Bat Out of Hell (the single, not the album)
You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth
Two Out of Thee Ain't Bad
    Paradise by The Dashboard Light
I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)
Rock and Roll Dreams Come True
Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are

-Jason "I suspect only 3 or maybe 4 of these songs will get many votes" Evans
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

I had to vote for the elusive 'that'. I said I wasn't going to, but I did. Don't tell me I can't.

    2/3

Although Paradise did have that famous rocker Phil Rizzuto as backup singer. Can’t beat that.

Got a text today from my freshman roommate (1977-78), sending his condolences on my loss. It took me a minute. My roommate was a bit of a musical sophisticate, and I wasn't, and I eventually recalled that I did play that Bat Out of Hell album more than he would have liked.

We also overslept the kickoff of a football game, twice.

Things change, including musical taste and state drinking minimums.

Meatloaf did capture a certain late adolescent urgency.

    Long ago...

Yeah, this. Minority determination might require another poll.

If you remember the song, it shouldn't surprise you that Jim Steinman also wrote Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now".

I used to call it "It's All Coming Back to Me(at Loaf)" because it felt so derivative. I didn't know at the time that it was the same songwriter.

I placed the first vote for "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" because it felt less like a song and more like a sadistic challenge for Meat Loaf to put his heart and soul into singing some mundane thing Jim Steinman read while sitting in a car. (If there were a song called "Grocery list: Milk, apples, peanut butter, salad dressing, brownie mix" then I might have voted for that.)
