I think the strategy is to focus on the left side and use any clues you get on the right side as a bonus once you actually get to solving that. I struggled a lot with the first one (which shouldn't have been so hard for me) so that made the second one a lot easier as I had exhausted so many letters.

It's not bad, but I can't deviate much from the strategy of throwing out as many different letters as possible (RENTS, CLAIM, BOUGH) and then putting together the words if all 5/10 letters light up, or thinking about what's missing (D, W, Y, double letters) if they don't all light up.

I think my interest would burn out quickly.

I definitely overthunk it today. My wife yelped with glee when she guessed in 2. She plays the same first word each day (a habit from playing Jotto for 30+ years with her family). So knowing that I tried to figure out how to guess it in 1. Then I guessed overly complicated letters/words from there. If I didn’t want to beat my wife’s score so badly, I could have guessed her same first word, and would have surely gotten it in 2 also. Serves me right.
