Just read a scientific American article on wordle stats.

Making use of a YouTube discussion by Grant Sanderson (3Blue1Brown), they suggested SLOAT (a young hawk) for a starter. If no letter is found, try CLINT (a hard rock). Neither can be the answer (too obscure), but they reveal a lot of info. Obviously, they’re using I: I = –log2p (I=information content, P=probability).

Unfortunately, for today, those 2 tries left 15 words (according to The NY Times). Further, the Scientific American article veered away from the SLOAT algorithm to discuss openers such as SLANE and then BLOAT (which is a useful starter word if your brain isn’t actually a computer).

So I’d gone with SLOAT and CLINT (words I’d never heard of outside of human names), which gave me 15 options—thanks, mr. math guys.

I went with the first option I could think of, which led to the quick victory. Thanks, luck.,

I think it’s because I’m currently visiting Sweden, which seems to have the lowest average WORDLE score (3.72), better than the US (3.92) or Germany (4.01). Which is a little weird, incidentally, since my hunch is that my average Wordle score for a non-English Wordle wouldn’t budge from infinity.

^seems strange it would say to pick a second word ending in T when that letter was not possible. Maybe CLING or CLINK instead?
