    RIP Sidney Poitier

He was the first African-American to win the Best Actor Oscar (for Lilies of the Field). He is also excellent in In the Heat of the Night (my fave of his), The Defiant Ones, and A Patch of Blue.

94, what a life! I think he had a huge impact. My first memory of him was in To Sir With Love, that was a lulu. Sorry, couldn't resist, but it brought a smile to my face on a sad occasion.

Aging action hero Sidney Poitier may be the most underrated Sidney Poitier.

This was 30 years ago. He would have been about 64, and throwing a few punches (but just verbal ones in this scene).

He also directed 9 films in an 18-year span, including Uptown Saturday Night and Stir Crazy.

Just an absolute giant of the silver screen and an early hero of mine. RIP Mr Tibbs.

I first saw him in a Patch of Blue. An absolute legend. RIP.

Another sad loss, but at least he lived a long life. A very talented man who will be missed.
