what a horrendous day for the ACC. losing to pretty much everybody, regardless of the quality of conference. The ACC's OOC record is atrocious.
This is not totally correct. It cannot be goaltending once the "try" is completed, and by definition:
And goaltending is defined as during a try. This is further reinforced explicitly by the backboard rule.Art. 12. A try ends when the throw is successful, when it is certain the throw is
unsuccessful, when the thrown ball touches the floor or when the ball becomes
dead.
Emphasis mine. When the ball contacts the backboard and any part of the ball is above
the rim during a field goal attempt, it is considered to be on its downward
flight. In such a case, it is goaltending when the ball is touched by a player
as long as it has a possibility of entering the basket.
Whether it has a possibility of entering the basket is a judgement call made by the refs, and usually granted very liberally.

Yeah, and there has to be some question as to how cleanly he was recruiting those top-25 guys at Oklahoma. Tiny Gallon was given impermissible benefits, which helped to derail the program at OU.
But I think the big thing is that OU had resources and reputation and Pitt has neither. So he landed a handful of back-end McDonald's guys, most notably Blake Griffin. But Griffin was an Oklahoma kid whose brother was already at OU. So that helped. And that probably also helped in landing Willie Warren and Tommie Mason-Griffin and Tiny Gallon.
But after Griffin went pro, Capel's fortunes faded fast. His team went 13-18 in 2010 and 14-18 in 2011. That combined with the recruiting violations probably tarnished his reputation.
And at Pitt, with fewer resources and less name recognition, he's run into issues with his players. Tons of guys have transferred out. That probably has only further tarnished his reputation.
