RJ Barrett - 20ppg for Knicks
Khem Birch - part-time starting C for Toronto
Oshae Brissett - 9.1ppg for Pacers

Dwight Powell - 8.7ppg, starting C for Dallas

I mean, the backcourt talent is ridiculous. Barrett, Brooks, Dort, SGA, and Murray are all high-level starters who are young stars for their teams. Those 5 guys will rotate on the perimeter and, frankly, the US is the only team in the world who won't be at risk of being utterly overwhelmed by them. Up front, it is a bit more of a challenge. Olynyk and Powell won't score a lot but have shown they can battle the best big men in the world. Birch is probably in the front-court rotation too. And I think Edey could be a real factor for them. The international game is a bit different from the NBA, with more back-to-the-basket big man play that could really work nicely for a 7-4 dude.

By the way, all those perimeter studs are under 25... Canada going to be a top international contender for a while, I suspect.
And still no Andrew Wiggins. He was a super-hyped prospect and the #1 overall pick and was supposed to lead the Canadian team back to prominence. Instead they're doing it without him.

Does Wiggins even start on a team that also has Barrett, Brooks, Dort, SGA, and Murray? It probably depends on what the team needs. He would certainly play a significant role. I could see Canada going small to some extent and playing some of these big wings at PF. Wiggins would be a great candidate for that.

I suspect he may have declined being a part of this commitment to the national team because he plays for the Warriors and feels like they are likely to be making deep playoff runs which can make a summer national team commitment more difficult.

The other two noticeable omissions are Chris Boucher and Trey Lyles. Both are serviceable NBA big men who could fit nicely onto this roster. Feel like somewhat similar players to Powell, Olynyk, and Birch. It seems like Tristan Thompson has sorta aged out of this group of Canadian hoops stars.

Jack White will be a part of Australia's team for their upcoming qualifiers:
    https://australia.basketball/austral...eam-announced/

They did not call in any NBA players, but it is still big to see him beat out other players from their domestic league.

Nigeria's federation informed FIBA that they are not able to field any teams at this time.

Jack had 14 points and 15 rebounds in Melbourne United's latest game. He's really turned into a nice pro over there. So, Jack does the qualifying grunt work and then Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Matisse Thybulle, Ben Simmons, Josh Giddey, and Aaron Baynes come in and get al the glory, eh?

The Nigerian basketball situation is a giant !#^@^-show. That team could be really great if they ever got their act together.

I am not sure if coming to Duke changes his availability, but Jacob Grandison was named to Finland's squad for their qualifiers along with Alex Murphy.

Quinn Cook is on the USA roster for their two qualifiers:
    https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...mwcq-team.aspx

This is one of the more experienced teams ever assembled for this format and should be able to handle things like Jose Alvarado trying to steal the ball as he suits up for Puerto Rico.

One story that has slipped through the cracks on this thread is that South Korea is out because they declined to play too many games due to COVID issues.

Grandison is not included in Finland's roster for the qualifying games, which seems reasonable given the timing. Neither Murphy brother made it either.

Another familiar name is training with a national team as Patrick Tapé apparently already started to play as a pro in the Ivory Coast and was called up to their squad.

This article speaks of Quinn Cook and his World Cup team involvement, but also shares some insight into his relationship with Coach K.

Nigeria's government backtracked on their withdrawal so they will at least field a team for the upcoming qualifiers. They did get Chimezie Metu to join, but the short notice keeps more familiar names, other than one Michael Gbinije, out of the picture. Unfortunately, their decision came after FIBA had awarded the vacant spot on the women's side to Mali.

Jack gets the start and has 10 points in 24 minutes in Australia's 76-69 win over China:
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...a#tab=boxscore

Marques is not expected to play for Indonesia as they have no realistic path to qualifying by this method and are heavily focused on the alternate proving ground that FIBA has given them to be allowed a spot as co-hosts.

Not too many surprises today other than the offensive struggles for both teams in Latvia's win over Serbia.

Did a double take trying to find Jack in the boxscore... then I saw it: Jackson Thomas White

Gotta love the formality of FIBA.

Jack had 4 points and 6 rebounds in 17 minutes in a 98-52 win for Australia over a young Japan team that is not fielding most of its best players since they have qualified as hosts:
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...a#tab=boxscore

Indonesia missed a chance to pick up a win by not going full strength against Saudi Arabia. Kazakhstan winning without a naturalized player against a strong Iran roster was a surprise in the region along with Bahrain winning at Syria.

Quinn had 6 points in 16 minutes as the United States took care of business with an 83-75 win over Puerto Rico:
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...A#tab=boxscore

No R.J. for Canada as they did enough to win over the Dominican Republic.

Michael Gbinije had 9 points in 34 minutes as Nigeria's quickly assembled team lost to Cape Verde. They are no longer the most chaotic story in the group as Mali's players declined to take the court against Uganda in an apparent pay dispute. That is somehow not as weird as Group D in the region after Kenya had to forfeit a game because there were simply not enough funds to get them to Egypt, although they apparently figured it out and anticipate being able to play the remaining games. South Sudan continues to win even after Luol Deng decided to hand over the coaching reigns to Royal Ivey.

In Europe, sentimental favorites Ukraine won in their home game relocated to Latvia. Montenegro stunned France with neither team at full strength.

International basketball is a great way to learn people's legal names.

Mali's players did not play today either so they are removed from the competition too. Kenya did make it to Egypt with eight players, but lost.

South Sudan won against Tunisia to prove that they are in good position to qualify for the tournament. The Ivory Coast is also in good shape. Senegal, which has traditionally been strong, will advance, but they will have a tough path to qualification and Cameroon, which has always hoped to get its NBA players involved, looks to have the hardest path from that side of the draw.

Jack had games highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds in 28 minutes to lead Australia to an unusual win as they were tied with China after three quarters and ended up winning by 23. The team decided to make a few changes to the roster between games and Tyrese Proctor played 3 minutes.
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...a#tab=boxscore

Michael Gbinije had 10 points and 6 rebounds in 29 minutes for Nigeria in a 91-72 win over Uganda:
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...a#tab=boxscore

Africa is done with the top two and the best third place team qualifying in the next stage. Group F starts with South Sudan at 6 wins, Egypt at 5 wins, Tunisia and the Democratic Republic of Congo at 4 wins, Senegal at 3 wins, and Cameroon at 1 win. I am always confused about how things like Mali's exit are handled, but I know that Ivory Coast starts Group E undefeated. Cape Verde has 1 loss, Angola and Nigeria have 2 losses, Uganda has 3 losses, and Guinea brings up the rear.

Another weird game happened, this time in Europe with the power going out in Nis so Serbia and Belgium have to finish their game on Monday. Croatia crashed out of qualification despite Sweden's home fans tempting fate by chanting "overrated" at Luka Doncic on their way to losing to Slovenia.

The southern section of the Americas concluded with Colombia needing a win to advance to the next round, prevailing in double overtime at home against Brazil.

Quinn had 4 points in 15 minutes for the United States in an 87-64 win over Cuba:
    https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...A#tab=boxscore

The Americas managed to be the only region without chaos so here are the standings at the start of the next stage with the top three teams in each group and the fourth place team with the best record advancing:
    Group E: Canada 6-0, Venezuela 5-1, Argentina 5-1, Dominican Republic 4-2, Panama 2-4, Bahamas 2-4
    Group F: Brazil 5-1, United States 5-1, Uruguay 4-2, Mexico 4-2, Puerto Rico 3-3, Colombia 2-4

Marques Bolden did dress for Indonesia's last qualifier, but did not play. They will need to reach the quarterfinals in the upcoming Asia Cup to qualify. If they do not, then the top three non-Philippines/Japan teams in the groups will advance. Kazakhstan missed a golden chance by losing to Bahrain will really be hoping that the three eastern teams take it easy on them while trying their hardest against Iran.
    Group E: New Zealand 4-0, Lebanon 3-1, Jordan 2-2, Philippines 2-2, Saudi Arabia 1-3, India 0-4
    Group F: Australia 6-0, Kazakhstan 5-1, China 4-2, Iran 4-2, Japan 2-4, Bahrain

Europe is simpler with the top three teams in each group advancing, but Group L is not set yet since Ukraine has to make up one more game that was supposed to be played in February. That would have been the group that Russia would have advanced to if they had not invaded. Here are the other three groups:
    Group I: Greece 3-1, Latvia 3-1, Turkey 2-2, Belgium 2-2, Serbia 1-3, Great Britain 1-3
    Group J: Germany 5-1, Finland 5-1, Slovenia 4-2, Israel 3-3, Sweden 2-4, Estonia 2-4
    Group K: France 5-1, Lithuania 5-1, Montenegro 4-2, Czech Republic 3-3, Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-3, Hungary 3-3

Ukraine came up short in their effort to get another win in Latvia as Spain has become even less liked this week after the federation announced plans to snap-naturalize Lorenzo Brown.

That leaves the last group looking like this heading into the next round:
    Italy 3-1, Iceland 3-1, Spain 3-1, Georgia 2-2, Ukraine 1-3, Netherlands 0-4

21 points and 6 rebounds in 39 minutes for Marques, but Indonesia loses to China and lost their last-chance qualifying game:

The box says he went 3/6 from three. When did he develop range in his game?
