Prior to beating Kansas, Dayton beat Miami, so you may think this is a pretty good Dayton squad.
Well... but before the Miami game, Dayton was on a 3 game losing streak. They dropped contests to the murderer's row of: UMass-Lowell, Lipscomb, and Austin Peay (NATE!!!) -- all three of those clubs are not in the KenPom top 200.
Whew...
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?
Dayton > Kansas

per a comment that was made in a Duke game this year, and which also occured on the game-winning buzzer-beater to put Dayton over Kansas, touching the net while the ball is in the air or on the rim should count as goal-tending. So, on that shot the C from Kansas clearly touches the net while the ball is in the air and as it hit the rim: would (should) that be called goal-tending?
Irrelevant because the ball ended up going through the basket.
Had it missed, that would have been a tough call to make, given that it would determine the outcome of the game all by itself.
Add two games postponed due to...flu?

Got caught up on some Memphis ball lately.......for the talent they have what a hot mess. Hero ball to the extreme.
Larry Brown is an assistant coach (as is Rasheed Wallace) and I gotta believe this team is driving him insane.
It wasn't long ago that Emoni Bates was considered a generational prospect. He's still just 17 so perhaps he turns the corner especially since he may play 2 seasons at Memphis since he's not draft eligible this year.
In one of the weirdest two week spans for a team I can remember, Dayton loses at home to UMass Lowell, Lipscomb (by 19), and Nate's Austin Peay tea, then wins the ESPN events tournament beating Miami, #4 Kansas, and a pretty good Belmont team.
UCLA's record coming into the tournament was deceiving. They were a much better team than their record indicated. Yes, they lost nine games prior to the NCAA Tournament. Here's who those losses were to:
San Diego State in the opener. Finished #30 in KenPom. #6 seed in NCAA Tournament.
at Ohio State. #11 in final KenPom. #2 seed in NCAA Tournament.
at Stanford in OT. #57 KenPom. Not a great loss.
at USC. #6 KenPom. #6 seed in NCAA Tournament. Made the Elite 8.
at Washington State. Bad loss.
at Colorado #8 KenPom. #5 seed in NCAA Tournament. Made second round of NCAA Tournament.
at Oregon #16 KenPom. #7 seed in NCAA Tournament. Made the Sweet 16.
USC again, by 1.
Pac 12 Tournament: Oregon State. #43 KenPom. #12 seed in NCAA Tournament. Made the Elite 8.
Nobody expected UCLA to make the run they did, really, but they were a pretty strong team. And they proved it by beating 2-seed Alabama, who many had predicted was going to the Final 4, and then top seed Michigan, which was a very, very strong team, one of the best in the nation wire to wire all season. And then in the Final 4, it took Suggs throwing in a lucky 3 pointer at the buzzer to beat them, or the Bruins would've played Baylor in the final game.
So all those players from that team are back, a year wiser and stronger and more experienced. Plus they added 5-star frosh Peyton Watson, though he has not had an immediate impact because there aren't that many minutes available.
Yeah, Gonzaga smoked em in the first 10 minutes or so of that game last week. But UCLA was playing without starting center Codey Riley. Riley averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds last year, and is far and away UCLA's best big body. Not saying UCLA would've won had Riley played, but he would've been a big physical presence guarding Timme. Also, without Riley in there, Gonzaga won the rebounding battle handily.
And UCLA has already proven that this year's version can beat other top teams in the land, as they came back to hand Villanova a 9 point setback in OT in Pauley.
The Bruins will drop a few games in the Pac-12 this year, but this is a skilled, experienced, deep team that gets after it at both ends and is very well coached. It's really hard to go back to back to the Final Four, but sleep on them at your peril.
Might have wanted to call a timeout in those last 8 seconds there, Mr. Bennett. (Unless they were out...then he'd have still wanted to, but couldn't. )
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."
Gonzaga 26 Tarelton 25 at halftime.
Psssst. Wrong thread. Use this one.
