JJ Redick is joining ESPN as an NBA Analyst

After taking over the college basketball broadcasts, Duke is now taking on the NBA. Let's get it done!

Not surprising at all. He’s got a second career in media and business. Congrats to him!

This wasn't really hard to predict.

Ah, missed this thread when posting in the general NBA Dukies thread. Just to reiterate: think he'll be terrific in this role, but hope that ESPN lets him push things in different directions a bit. With the podcast, he's made it clear that giving him some serious creative control is a very sensible move, but ESPN is... not known for their creative studio NBA coverage (Richard Jefferson, another guy who cut his media teeth with a terrific podcast, being the recent exception that gives me hope).

He will kill it as an analyst. He has a clear, articulate voice. A great demeanor and humor for television and looks and dresses sharp. He has gotten some good practice doing a podcast and now gets to be front and center on television. This is a good career move for him in my opinion as a retired player. Keeps him close to the game without the heavy demands of as much travel and time devoted to being a player so that he can spend more time with his family. Hopefully he gets to spend as much time as he wants with them while also still getting to spend a bit of time around the game and studying for broadcasts.

I am really looking forward to seeing JJ in this new role. Hopefully he has a clause in his contract that permits him to veer from ESPN standards and not make click-bait hot takes all the time.

I think he should model himself off of Roy Kent!

    Spoiler alert:

So he will quit his job as a pundit to become an assistant coach at Duke?

This is a low blow, but a reasonable request nonetheless.

Podcast is one thing, the bright lights and huge audience is another. Whom he is paired with is also a huge factor in his success.

Our own Shane Battier gave it a go and seemed to have some difficulty getting his personality across. Even Grant hasn't been an A+, although part of that is that I think Bill Raftery is a bit passive aggressive towards him.

My point is that nothing is guaranteed. I hope JJ does well. He is one of my favorite Duke players of all time and I happened to meet him by chance about 10 years ago. He was incredibly gracious and kind.

Here is the public listing with lots of pics. Some of it is nice, some of it is what my mother would have called ungapatchka. Great outdoor space. I wonder where he is moving - this place is a short hop across the bridge to ESPN's studios.
