Unfortunately, the gap widened significantly today. Celine evidently had issues with the blustery, cold weather and finished +3 for the day, -1 total. Leona shot even today to stay at -2. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Buhai lapped most of the field, going -7 to finish at 14 under and a 5 stroke lead over second.
Alex with another bird on 8. Still 1 stroke back but T3.
Edit: Remember how I wrote only 3 of the guys ahead of him were ranked higher in the FedEx Cup standings? Alex is now T4, and 2 of the 3 guys ahead of him are among those 3 ranked better, and he's even made up ground on them. It's called moving day for a reason, and the weekend is the true proving ground. Would love to see Alex get his first win, but a lot of golf left.

Smalley with a triple bogey on 14 and is back to Even par for Round 3.

A bogey on 18 for Smalley results in a +1 (71) in Round 3. Alex is currently T46 headed to Round 4. He dropped 34 places this morning from T12.

Sleeping in his own bed was not good for Alex. He didn't hit a single fairway this morning. He will need a phenomenal 4th round to get back close to the top 10. As it is, he's put himself in a much more precarious position for the playoffs (he's now projected in 68th place).
A tale of 2 courses: he's -10 on the front, +6 on the back through 3 rounds.

The best two rounds today (so far) in the women’s Open belong to Leona (-5) and Celine (-4). Leona is still six shots from the lead at 13 under.
Alex is -2 through five holes including a par on 14. He is currently playing the Par 5 15th hole.

Leona playing amazingly well in those conditions. Bogey free and five under today.
Running out of holes, but a fantastic finishing round.
Alex goes -2 on the back, an obvious improvement, showed some grit to come back like that. Maybe he got angry at himself, after reaching T3 halfway through the 3rd round this morning was a disaster. The announcers have mentioned this is his home course, I'm sure he expected better.
If he goes -4 on the front, which he did yesterday, he'll probably get a top 20.

Leona and Celine have the two best rounds of the final day (-5 and -4, respectively), and Buhai did her best to bring others back into the mix ... but there was just too much ground to make up after yesterday. Leona finishes 3 back in a tie for fourth, Celine 5 back tied for seventh.
I really do love it when I'm right. Alex goes -4 on the front to post 6-under 64. Great job!
Predicted FedEx Cup rank going into the playoffs: 61. Which gives him some breathing room, but he still might have to make the cut next week to secure a spot in the 2nd round. Points are quadrupled next week, so there is risk, but also commensurate reward.

Alex Smalley finishes strong with a -6 (64) in Round 4 to improve to -10 for the Championship. He is currently T12.
