    Heisman Watch 2021

Obviously it's very early. Lots of guys are going to be added to the list of possibilities and some will drop off. Of course Bryce Young, Alabama's dynamic sophomore QB, is a frontrunner, and did nothing to hurt his case in the Tide's dismantling of the Hurricanes yesterday. Young was terrific. But I'd say that at this very early stage, his #1 challenger for the trophy is UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet. The Michigan transfer -- I always thought he was underutilized by Harbaugh -- ran for 106 yards on only 6 carries, with three of them going for touchdowns, in the opening romp over Hawaii. Then he followed that up with 117 yards on 11 carries and another touch in the win last night over LSU in the Rose Bowl. He's averaging a ridiculous 13 yards per carry, with 4 TD, and with a number of QBs on top teams looking pretty ordinary yesterday or earlier in the week, Charbonnet has to be considered ahead of them. Let's see if he can keep it going.

Just extrapolate his first game stats to the full 12-game schedule and he's a shoe-in!

It will help if we spell his name correctly: Mataeo Durant. He's on my list!

May the (blocking) Force be with him. And a passing game!
Man, if your Mom made you wear that color when you were a baby, and you're still wearing it, it's time to grow up!
