In praise of PBS - Music

I'm a big fan of Masterpiece and Masterpiece Mystery, but for the purposes of the board I wanted to concentrate on some great music docs on my local PBS website right now.

In Their Own Words - Chuck Berry

American Masters - Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away

If interested watch them soon, they're free through the 24th. Or you can become a member and watch at your leisure (and a huge catalog). Lots of other great stuff here if you poke around, and check your local PBS site.

Is the complete ACL catalog available with a membership?

At first I thought "What does the anterior cruciate ligament have to do with this?".

My search on the site of "Austin City Limits" returns 487 results. Don't know if that's complete, but it will keep you busy.

I love watching the sets they show from the various ACL festivals. The set with The Raconteurs from a ways back stands out to me.

Iíd guess thereís been more than 1,000 ACL shows since the mid-70ís. IIRC, ACL started shortly before SNL. Iím guessing 487 is about half and a tremendous amount of great music.

Rita Moreno on American Masters, free here through Wednesday. The thread title says "Music", and she does have a Grammy.

Also fun to see some young Morgan Freeman clips with her on The Electric Company.

Speaking of ACL: If you like great musicianship and lots of energy, here's Jon Batiste in Austin. Personally, I'm disappointed in how few entertainers today are great musicians. Heck, many aren't musicians at all.

P.S. If you're short on time, go to the 44-minute mark and watch Freedom.

Jackson Browne on ACL. Still sounds pretty good at 73. Unfortunately he leaves out one of my all-time favorites, Running On Empty, but he does toss us a few old nuggets.

Now this is fun. Brittany Howard (you may know her from Alabama Shakes) on ACL.

As a bonus, here's an interview with Judy Woodruff. No, she's not a musician, but she is one of us (BA '68). I did not know she had a child (who has grown into adulthood) with spina bifida.
