    If there were any questions of whether top basketball prospects would continue to commit to Duke with Coach K gone and Jon Scheyer as the head coach, I think those questions are quickly becoming quelled.

    Way to go Coach and way to go Duke!

    Welcome Dariq! Stay a while and make that money while winning championships!

    Sa-weet! Welcome Dariq!

    The Scheyer era is off to quite a start!!!

    Turning down $500k puts quite a value on choosing Duke over the G League.

    There is a lot of time between now and the date of the LOI to reconsider the G league. I hope this is over, but somehow am not so sure.

    Two guys named Kyle and Dariq-
    Both at the switch were asleep.
    Coach K he is gone,
    They must not have known,
    So now it's our secret to keep.

    Full starting five thy new Coach relies;
    Of these bones are champions made;
    They become pearls seen in his eyes:
    Nothing of K doth fade
    But doth undergo a sea-change
    Into something rich and strange.

    This sounds promising.

    His game starts with defense. At Montverde, guarding the likes of Scottie Barnes, Caleb Houstan, Cade Cunningham and others has turned him into a committed defender. Whitehead excels as a switch defender who can keep the ball in front or chase a shooter off a screen to contest shots.

    Also from the same article. Good stuff.

    "Coach K told me he will still be there for me to help me. That meant a lot to me," Whitehead said. "Everyone sees him as this serious coach. I mean, he is serious about the game. But he is a very funny guy.

    "The Duke program is all about K, once he's gone they will fall into oblivion"

    It sure is nice when the haters keep getting proven wrong! Tremendous pickup for Scheyer and it is awesome that these two happened so early so other players will see the confidence that they have in Scheyer and know that if they choose Duke they would be joining a talented roster.

    You’re right on all counts, UC. The importance of Coach Scheyer signing these two elite recruits right off the bat cannot be overstated. I am a very happy Duke fan tonight! 😈 🏀

    That quote about Whitehead’s defense was also what stuck out to me as most exciting about landing him.

    Welcome to Duke Dariq Whitehead!!!

    You chose the right path. The g league has you playing in obscurity.

    Duke is where you can build your brand.

    Let's get the other 4 targets. Great beginning. What would really blow the minds of ACC foes and UK,UCLA, Zona, Gonzaga is if Mitchell, Lively,Darling and Schutt all join in.

    Great get!

    He had a fantastic EYBL.

    He's always been known for his athleticism, his defense, his motor, and his ability to drive.

    During EYBL, he showed off a vastly improved outside shot and playmaking.

    With his size and defensive ability, he can play anywhere between the 2-4.

    Just a wonderful pick up by Scheyer (with Coach K's help).
    Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things. - Winston Churchill
