For anyone interested, Simone Biles provided insight into the lead up to and her issues at the Tokyo Olympics in an interview. There was some debate and “the right thing to do…” armchair judgements about her decisions. Her recent testimony before the Senate is also worth watching.

I do want to say, one doesn't need to have been sexually abused to justify a decision to not compete. Not that you're implying as such, but it's not "okay to step out because of the abuse", it's "okay to step out because it's okay to step out." Even more so when you continue to support your teammates who do feel able to go.
