Williams with third foul, another moving screen.
Lewis just picks up 2nd and 3rd fouls in a hurry. Duke up 40-37 at 3Q media timeout with Tech at line to complete and-one.
Goodchild only Blue Devil with field goal in third so far, a 3 and a 2.
Williams with third foul, another moving screen.
Va Tech is getting easy looks close to the basket on every possession, while Duke is having to work hard to manufacture an open shot. Doesn't bode well. I'm reluctant to criticize an individual player, but Jade Williams has been, shall we say, unhelpful during her second-half minutes.
Day-Wilson keeps dribbling into traffic without any idea what she's going to do once she gets there.
Duke goes ice cold at end of third and trails 46-44 going into final quarter.
VT outscored Duke 21-12, but Duke is only down by 2. Somebody has to step up.
Fortunate to finally get a couple of stops on defense as the 3rd quarter wound down. Va Tech had been consistently driving to the basket and getting either an easy layup or a whistle with a trip to the line, while Duke seems to be doing a lot of aimless dribbling and sloppy passing, leading to badly forced shots. Went from up 7 to down 2 in that quarter -- and it could have been worse.
Williams misses twice at the rim. GRRR
Balogun hasn't scored this half. Time for her to step up.
Tech hits a couple of triples and leads 54-50 with four minutes left.
Duke finally shuts down the easy driving lanes to the basket, and Va Tech answers with a pair of three-pointers to go up 4. Meanwhile, Duke is struggling to get a decent shot on every possession (except for the open layups that Jade Williams missed).
Kitley gets old-fashioned 3 on scramble and Duke called for another moving screen
Sheppard hits 3 and Duke trails 60-50 with 1:53 left.
Duke can't make shots. These announcers are kind of annoying, constantly praising Va Tech. They are nearly cheerleaders for the Hokies.
With Taylor and Gordon out Duke just doesn't have enough shotmakers.
Tough to make the kind of shots that Duke is being forced to take. Not seeing much in the way of crisp ball movement and timely cuts by any Duke players to create open shots. Duke now down 12, after being outscored by 19 points in the second half. Not encouraging. And it's hard to complain about Va Tech getting all the praise.
Hokies pull away late for 65-54 win.
