Yes, the pressure is about to ramp up for some of these “unusual suspects”. My best guess is this tournament is won by either Koepka, McIlroy, Oosthuizen, DeChambeau, or Rahm - in that order.

I think the talent is going to rise to the top here.

I agree. This tournament has looked great on tv from the east coast. Great venue and crowd and the course has played fair and tough, great United States Open traditional conditions.

And you can’t beat some of these views of the ocean, beach, and cliffs.

Thank you. There is concern in town that we won’t get another Open when the USGA cuts down the number of courses that are in the rotation. I have been hoping we would put on a good enough show to make a compelling case that Torrey Pines needs to be included.

2008 was fantastic, but it could have been a fluke. I think this Championship is proving it wasn’t.

Maybe. But I see *a lot* of people on the Tweeter who are panning the course, calling the design “boring,” “unmemorable,” what have you. I don’t agree with them, but that opinion is being shouted out of some megaphones.

Looks like the moment is too big for Henley. He’s done.

Well there you go. Hopefully the USGA disagrees.

Does anyone want to win this event? War of attrition right now.

Rahm with a great putt on 18 to get the clubhouse lead at -6. That’s an excellent score. Let’s see what Oosthuizen can do.

    Jon Rahm Rodríguez!

Long birdie putt on the 72nd hole to card a 67 and take a 1 shot lead into the clubhouse.

    Wow!

Bryson cards a snowman on the par 4 17th.

+8 on the back 9 today coming in …

    Yikes.

Oostie can drive it into the penalty area left of 17 is what Oostie can do. Ouch.

After about driving one left into the Pacific Ocean off the 17th tee box, Louis takes a drop and puts one to about 8 feet. Good shot at saving par here.

If he does … we are set up for some fireworks on the 72nd hole for him today.

Maybe 18 more holes of golf between Rahm and Oosthuizen tomorrow …

Welp bogey for Louis on 17 …

Has to make an eagle 3 on 18 to force a playoff with Rahm …

Jon Rahm Rodríguez is the 2021 United States Open Champion.

He is the first Spaniard to win the United States Open.

He is Spain’s 3rd major winner in men’s golf.

We have had a Japanese, American, and Spanish major winner thus far this season. Pretty cool.

Just FYI, the U.S. Open went away from the 18-hole playoff format; had they tied I believe it would have been a 2-hole playoff, to be played immediately after the round.
