    Degenerate Gamblers: US Open

It's US Open week from picturesque Torrey Pines, and that means it's time for the next installment of the DBR picking contest.

As a reminder, here's how it works:

    1. Select of team of as many golfers as the "salary cap" allows
    2. The salary cap is 30 points - use them wisely!
    3. Each player's "cost" against the salary cap is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Dustin Johnson "costs" 9; Justin Thomas costs 8; Jon Rahm costs 8; etc.
    4. Anyone whose OWGR points are less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
    5. You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
    6. Your final score is based on the total money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get $0 for that player.
    7. As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).

It seems wide open this week, hopefully setting the stage for a great US Open. Good luck to all!

Does anyone know why Phil Mickelson isn't listed ? Is it because he's 50 ? I think he's ranked 33rd in the world.

    just curious

Do any of you know how difficult the course is being set up? Most US Open courses are usually set up with deep rough, hard and fast greens. Of course the weather plays a big part in scores as well. Most golfers had rather play in the rain than play in high swirling wind.

The only thing I "know" on that front is that the course will play as a par 71 this week, with the 6th hole shortened by 50 yards to play as a 515-yard par-4 (instead of the 565-yard par-5 that it usually plays). Still will tip-out at approximately 7,700 total yards.

The other bit I have seen is that the "advanced metrics"/strokes-gained guys are saying that it will be preferable to be in fairway bunkers as opposed to the rough. FWIW; YMMV.
