In case anyone is wondering, Coach K has coached (according to my count) 208 players during his tenure at Duke. In my mind, that number was way lower than expected but the more that I think about it, any given year has between 3-6 recruits. When you add in walk-ons and transfers, 208 makes sense.

Hmm. How would you get the pre-rsci players? Old Parade, Street & Smith, etc?

Interesting the last guy on your list played in 14 NBA seasons and in 600+ games. Sometimes HS rankings don’t foretell future success,

    Thanks for compiling.

Wikipedia has a list of Parade All-Americans going back to the late 50s. At some point, I made a list of Parade All Americans who ended up at Duke. I will see if I can find it. In the meantime, here is a trivia question.

Name the Duke players who were two-time first team Parade All-Americans.

(I know of two, but there may be more).

Mike Dunleavy was a slightly lower rated recruit who played in the NBA for 15 years and was the #3 pick in the 2002 Draft. Also led Duke in scoring in 2001 NCAA Championship Game, hitting a string of 3s in the second half that really swung the momentum our way.

Dunleavy did grow a few inches while at Duke. I think he went from 6'5" or 6'6" to 6'9". I'm sure that a 6'9" Dunleavy coming out of high school would have yielded a better ranking.

Let me give you my favorite quote from Kenny Smith: "Six-nine? Six-nine? How does Mike Dunleavy [Sr.] have a son that's 6-9? What is he? Five-eleven?"

FWIW, Sr. is listed as 6-3.

    *National Player of the Year

One thing to keep in mind that Parade wasn't trying to create a list of top prospects as much as a list of the players who had the "best" seasons. There is a correlation between the two, but it is not perfect. For example, Semi Ojeleye won the player of the year award despite being ranked in the 30-40 range as an overall prospect.
