    Endless Slime At Louisville

Dino Gaudio indicted for extortion. He threatened to expose NCAA violations unless UL paid him a lot of money.

Gonna be nice to see NCAA just act like there aren't any violations to investigate there now.

The allegations of violations are the impermissible production of recruiting videos for prospective student-athletes and the impermissible use of graduate managers in practices and workouts.
So, they made videos of recruits and they used managers to help out in practice. Well, that is some really serious infraction territory!

My bet is that Gaudio had some other dirt but this is what Louisville is willing to talk about.
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

The NCAA is so mad at Carolina that Louisville might receive the death penalty! (tip of the cap to Tark).

Dino didn't exactly leave Wake Forest smelling like a rose.

Who else would hire him except the school that gave Bobby Petrino a landing spot?

And don't get me started on escorts and Karen Sypher and the fact that Louisville actually irked the NCAA so badly that they're the only program to ever be stripped of an NCAA title.

I'd trade Louisville for Maryland or West Virginia or Cincinnati or East Carolina or Central Florida or a player to be named later in a New York minute. Even UConn.

Dino and his lawyers are polishing his big solo. NCAA will have a hard time ignoring the Feds. Hot summer ahead!

Shame, really. That they're the only program, I mean.

Yes, but that's another discussion. But it does suggest the severity of their transgressions.

    Or something about the NCAA’s willingness to look the other way about “some others” {*cough* southward on 15-501 *cough*}

In all seriousness, what would it take for the conference to expel Louisville?

Had the impression that Coach K really didn't care for Dino and his style of play at Wake Forest.

In their matchup at Cameron in 2010, Duke won 90 to 70, and K seemed to keep his foot on the gas pedal the whole way. Despite a large lead, Nolan played 38 minutes, Kyle Singler 37 minutes, and Jon Scheyer 36 minutes. The post-game handshake didn't seem cordial.

them to stop making the conference money...which won't happen given the size of their fanbase.

Maybe if they entertained potential recruits with strippers, oh, wait.

I think this game if memory serves me correctly was one of the most physical games I can recall & Bilas said something to that effect later. 47 total fouls called. My memory is that it was tight and Duke just put them away down the stretch.

Reading the link below- It was 55-55 with 14 minutes left. And Duke went on a 22-7 run from that point. As I read the article below it triggered another memory. That Miles Plumlee had one of his best games at Duke. 19 points 14 rebounds.

I don't know if Wake has been ranked since Dino was fired. In his last two seasons, he was 44-18 and was fired after early exits & probably other things that I don't know about. But when he was not offered any other head coaching jobs that I am aware of after being dismissed at Wake. That spoke volumes.

It was a bad move to add Louisville to the ACC. From my perspective, the conference only wanted to enter a new market. If it was not all about the money, Vanderbilt was the better choice.

I don't think Vanderbilt was really an option. As much as they don't really fit in the SEC, I don't think they had any intention of leaving. Brokering a Vanderbilt-for-Louisville trade would make a ton of sense but it's not happening.

Someone who knows more can correct me but didn't we need to get to a certain number to have enough teams to host a football championship game? And since football unfortunately drives everything, that was what was driving most decision making? Doing some very preliminary research leads me to believe that we are now over that number by a few, but it might have been a different number at the time.

Ideally we could drop Louisville but I think the optics of that would be pretty bad (even though they keep embarrassing us) and, more importantly, I'm guessing that a lot of contracts would have to be broken at great cost. If I recall (again, hazy memories), there was a lot of fear about further conference shuffling so the conference deals that were made made it pretty hard for schools to leave. In return, I'm assuming that the schools wanted assurances that they couldn't just be removed unless problems much bigger than this occurred.

Vanderbilt was not available, but West Virginia was. That was the choice. UConn would have been opposed by Boston College as infringing on its territory.
