Ok, I can admit when I was wrong. Jackie Young wasn't literally sitting on a beach. It was 10:30 at night, so she was literally sitting in her hotel on the beach.
Saturday night, team plane leaves Monday, and she needs 2 negative COVID tests on separate days before Japan will even let her in the country. So IF she tests negative (I wonder who else was called, there had to be backups to the backup), she'll have to take a commercial flight which gets into Tokyo on Wednesday. That's when she meets her teammates, and competition begins Saturday.
Wow.

Can someone explain to me why, in group play scoring, teams get one point for a loss? It seems that the scoring is 2 points for a win and 1 point for a loss. When would a team get 0 points (for a default?)
The last time that I explicitly remember a 0 point group stage game was when Qatar protested and did not play after FIBA ruled that some of their players had questionable proof of citizenship. I suppose if a team was missing too many players due to virus protocols, that would be 0 points too, although when that happened to Argentina's women's team, they ended up having to withdraw completely, which is a separate process.
For anyone still awake, this USA women's game should be entertaining. Japan plays a unique style that takes time to adjust to.
Baynes will miss the rest of the Olympics.

Rotten start for Team USA.
