That's an impressive list of players, most if not all who have played in the NBA, US Colleges or European Leagues. So if all of those players have met the Nigerian citizenship requirement by either being born there or having parents/grandparents born there, it must be the most of any non-US country.

ESPN+ will have the qualifying tournament games. Group stage games will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and then the semifinals are Saturday and Finals on Sunday.

A lot of teams have brought extra players into the test protocol in case any test positive, so final rosters are likely to be available a little later than usual.

By the way, somewhat amusing to note that Lloyd Pierce is one of the assistant coaches on Pop's team (Steve Kerr and Jay Wright are the others). When it was announced, Pierce looked like a rising star in the business. Today, he's unemployed because the Hawks fired him (and the team promptly showed such huge improvement that it is impossible not to think that Pierce was a big hinderance to their success).

Let me be the first to suggest that if Team USA struggles at all in their early games, we get rid of Pierce and get Nate McMillan to be a Team USA assistant coach.
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

And add Trae Young to draw fouls.

A pretty good starting five for Canada. I don't see Nigeria in that listing.

Nigeria has already qualified for the Olympics. The teams awhom111 listed are in qualifying tournaments for the remaining four Olympic spots. They are playing at four tournaments around the world: Victoria (Canada), Split (Croatia), Kaunas (Lithuania) and Belgrade (Serbia). Information about which teams are in which qualifying tournament can be found on the wikipedia page.

Interestingly, because Senegal had to withdraw for lack of players, they were credited with two 10-0 losses.

Here are the teams already qualified for the Olympics:

    Group A:
    USA
    France
    Iran
[OQT Winner from Victoria] -- Note, this could be that formidable Canada team, playing at home.

    Group B:
    Australia
    Nigeria
    [OQT Winner from Split]
    [OQT Winner from Belgrade]

    Group C:
    Argentina
    Spain
    Japan
    [OQT Winner from Kaunas]

Only 12 teams -- seems meager relative to the EuroCup and FIFA. I guess they are using a single venue for the 18 (?) qualifying games, which could be played over six days. Given the situation, it may be an outdoor court -- Hah!

The US and Canada in the same group is nuts. Can two teams from the same group qualify for the medal round?

    Colangelo defends the Love selection.

“The best reason to say why Kevin Love as an extra big was because of his international experience,” Colangelo said, via the New York Post. “Yes it’s true he hasn’t played much of anything the last couple of years, but the skills he brings to the table and commitment he’s made to physical conditioning, he’s a versatile guy up front who can rebound and hit shots."

Yes. Eight of the twelve teams qualify for the knock out rounds: the top two in each group, and the two best third-place finishers.

Those eight then play a single-elimination tournament. That's where the danger lies for Team USA--they are favored in every game, but we all know that the best team doesn't always win a single-elimination tournament.

The other game in Victoria went to Turkey 95-86, although Uruguay gave them pretty much everything they could handle.

With Senegal out, only one game was played in Belgrade. Hosts Serbia got quite a test from the Dominican Republic, but won 94-76 with a strong fourth quarter.

The first qualifier of the day was played in Kaunas and Poland beat Angola 83-64. Lithuania could never quite get a convincing lead at home, but did beat Venezuela 76-65.

Over in Split, Croatia, Germany is missing some key players, but they did manage to recover in the fourth quarter to get past Mexico 82-76. In one of the odder stories, their leading scorer had his contract terminated early in the season and had to go play in France because he and his girlfriend. who was an athlete at Miami, participated in protests against Germany's lockdown measures. Brazil rolled past Tunisia 83-57 after an even first quarter.

Honestly, as more and more NBA injuries to top tier athletes pile up, I increasingly wonder why anyone would be excited to play three more weeks of basketball this off-season.

exactly. I can't imagine the NBA teams are keen on this development. Year 'round hoops isn't good for the body.

At the 1:18 mark of that video, Barrett accidentally scores a basket when trying to lob a pass in to the post.

It is the second time I can think of where RJ scored a basket when he was not trying to.

    ....too soon?

The day started in Kaunas with Slovenia eliminating Angola 118-68. Venezuela pulled away late to beat South Korea 94-80 to flip the tiebreaker to their favor and guarantee themselves a spot in the semifinals. The other spot from that group will be determined by the Lithuania-South Korea result with the hosts needing to lose decisively to not advance. Slovenia and Poland have advanced on the other side of the bracket and their game will determine placement.

The first game in Split had Mexico using a strong second half to beat Russia 72-64. That margin just flipped the tiebreaker in their favor so they will advance and Russia would need a win over Germany by the right margin to join them. Brazil was very impressive in a 94-67 win over Croatia to advance in the top spot. The other place will go to the winner of Croatia-Tunisia with the hosts hoping for a reaction after such a decisive loss.

There was only one game in Belgrade again and the Philippines, which is not even fielding players who are playing in their professional league, made Serbia work before falling 83-76. Serbia goes through in the top spot and will be joined by the winner of Philippines-Dominican Republic. Italy and Puerto Rico automatically advance, but will play to determine placement.

Is Poland's Jakub Garbacz considered a good garbage man or is he more of a trash talker?
