Some of the Bill Clinton, GWB, and Palin skits were not only hilarious but also pretty important in defining the perceived personalities of those three.

I will never forget watching Martin Lawrence give his SNL monologue. If you didn't see it live, you never saw it. (Pre YouTube, of course.) Any replay of that night replaced Lawrence's intro with a scrolling script about how the entire production crew almost got fired.
And after that night, the monologue was scripted, for years and years and years.

That's a powerful sketch.
