I always thought Greg Marshall from Wichita State made sense...but that ship has sailed.

    Chris Beard could be solid.

Mike Anderson at Arkansas could get a look.

King Rice has done well at Monmouth, but again... too big a step up from small school to the big big big time.

Jerod Haase has not exactly lit the world on fire at Stanford. Plus, he's a Kansas dude even though he was an assistant to Roy at UNC.

Jeff Lebo did poorly at Auburn and is now doing poorly at East Carolina. No way.

Jerry Stackhouse seemed like an up and comer, but has floundered at Vandy.

It is possible they take one of the guys currently on the bench... is Hubert Davis ready?

This won't be nearly as easy as when Roy came over from Kansas.

I really want to have a "UNC Coaching Candidates (wrong answers only)" thread. Is that beneath this board?

Thought he was already there as an intern. Perhaps now he will be on the official payroll.

I will reiterate my offer for pie bets to any and all comers who want to believe Stevens will be in Chapel Hill.

I would suspect that they learned their lesson about keeping it in the family...right?

Nate Oates feels about right, given the events of this year.

Somebody check for changes in the undergraduate course listings and cross reference with Rams Club fund raising. Gotta help the new guy get established and carry on the tradition.

    • Brad Stevens - nope, you call him but he's gonna tell you no. One so-so season in Boston ain't enough to send him scurrying back to college ball.
    • Chris Beard - possible and would be my first phone call
    • Jay Wright - not likely at all. Nova is already one of the top 10 jobs in the sport.
    • Nate Oates - very possible, he'd be on my short list.
    • Wes Miller - not ready, you gotta show major recruiting hops to get this gig and mid-major coaches are not there yet
    • Hubert Davis - not ready, exactly zero head coaching experience
    • Mark Few - nope, he's built a juggernaut. No reason to leave. He's at Gonzaga for life.
    • Bill Self - nope, he's at Kansas for life
    • Jerry Stackhouse - have you seen his record at Vandy?
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Roy was hard to dislike. Especially living in WNC, everyone here is two degrees of separation from him. I wish him well in his retirement, and I hope UNC has a long, arduous, and unfruitful search for a new head coach.
He's a huge cheater. Not hard to dislike at all.

    Good riddance to him.

Yea, I read the entire thread on IC. It's more like several of the posters are HOPING it will be Brad Stevens (assuming the story of Roy's retirement is for real).

IMHO, I'd be AMAZED if Brad Stevens left the Celtics for Carolina.

I tend to agree with Woj that no NBA coach is leaving for college, but Stevens has a problem in that the Js are Boston's top players without being true superstars. The Celtics are thus going to have problems finding their way past Brooklyn and Philly. And the issue's not fixable without a blockbuster trade. So it might be a good time to bail before the natives get restless.
