Kim is rolling. Sure glad we got her out of Chapel Hill.

Gina Kim is the 119th Women's North & South Amateur Champion. Incredible playing.

Gina is very good in general but her emotional play really lends itself to match play. She often yells to get herself going. In the NCAA Championship she had some of her opponents doing the same thing and that clearly was not their game. It’s fun if you like her, annoying if you don’t. Glad I liked her.
I think I have told this story before, but still.
Earlier this spring, I ended up spectating 18 holes with Rachel Kuehn’s mom. (Rachel plays at Wake & won this event last year. Her brother was in my son’s group at a local junior golf tournament.) It was the weekend of the ACC Tournament over at Sedgfield, and Mom (a golfer herself; she played the 2001 Women’s US Open at Pine Needles while pregnant with Rachel) was keeping close tabs. At one point she said, “Duke is gonna win. We don’t like those Duke girls.” I was proud of myself for holding my tongue. 😂

So what does medal play really mean? Of the sixteen matches in the round of 32, 12 were won by the lower seeded player. The four semifinalists were the players who finished the medal play in these positions -- 15, 21, 30 and 32.
Gina won her five matches 2&1, 19 holes, 19 holes, 6&4, and 3&1. Gina played 88 holes of match play and won 13 more holes than her opponents.
