Obviously would have been nice to see the Duke women's golf team win again BUT it was also great to see the pure joy and happiness on the faces of the Ole Miss players (and coaches and parents and supporters) after they won the deciding match. And the announcers said it was the first Ole Miss women's team to win any NCAA championship.

That seems worthy of bumping the thread back to the front page:

Our house received a surprise visit today from my son's Special Olympics golf coach. Apparently, Adrien Pendaries is leaving to head back to France to turn pro as part of the European Challenge Tour (the level below the top Euro league). He was off-loading some Duke gear in preparation for the trip back, and he happens to have had some men's size medium Duke polo shirts to give away, so my son is one of the lucky beneficiaries.

I kind of doubt M Penardies reads DBR, but if any of you folks ever see him for any reason, please let him know the donation was much appreciated!

Three Duke women's golfers are participating in this week's North & South Women's Amateur at Pinehurst. Gina Kim, Megan Furtney, and Phoebe Brinker are in the field. 36 holes of stroke play, on No. 2 and No. 4. The field will then be to the top 32 for match play (and exactly 32; ties will be resolved by playoff). The first stroke play round will be tomorrow.

Good day for Gina Kim, who shot Even par 72 on Pinehurst No.4 today at the North & South. That places her T10. Megan Furtney and Phoebe Brinker each shot 78 (+6) on No.2, and are T80. They have some ground to make up in tomorrow's other stroke play round, if they hope to reach the Round of 32 for match play.

Gina Kim birdied the 16th hole of Pinehurst No.2 to shoot 75 today & claw her way into a 10-players-for-8-spots playoff to advance to match play at the North & South. Furtney & Brinker missed the cut and will not advance.

Kim goes in at the 32-seed and will play low medalist Abby Daniel at 7:00 am tomorrow. My money’s on Gina!

What a run! Gina was 2-down through fourteen holes, and then won the last four holes with par-eagle-par-par. She'll now face 17-seed Addison Baggarly (who plays for Baylor) in tomorrow morning's Round of 16.

Just think, if you go by to see the action at Pinehurst, it's a quick trip over on 211 to get some peaches in Candor, and some barbecue in Briscoe.

Kim & Baggarly tied through 13.

Edit: Kim just won the 14th, so she's 1-up through 14.
