Duke tied it up at 2-2. Both nice pitching and patient bats in the 4th.

Coach has to be disappointed after the split this weekend. Should have won at least 3. 3-37 with RISP does not get it done. Don't know how to explain the repeated failures in clutch situations, but there it is. Big play in today's game was an error on a routine ground ball to second that led to a 2 run inning for Clemson. This team is good, but maybe not as good as their record and ranking would have indicated. Tough sledding ahead, but time to work on patience and bat discipline. Clemson is also good, and an even younger program than ours.
On the verge of a 3 game losing streak suddenly as VT takes a 4-1 lead in the top of the 7th. Just no offense again today in terms of driving in runners.
<devildeac> anyone playing drinking games by now?

Poor outfield fielding going to cost the team a win. And subpar batting today as well.
Duke loses 4-1. Just unable to get runners home in RISP right now. At all.

Part of me is thinking that Duke isn’t as good as the rankings said and beat up on bad competition. Hopefully they win the game later today, but this one isn’t looking at too good.
First bit of adversity comes with our first series loss and a 5 game losing streak. Gonna need to fight our way out of it to show we're still the same team that beat two tough SEC opponents.

We break the five game losing streak with a 3-1 win over VPI. We were outhit 8 to 2.

VPI has essentially one pitcher, Keely Rochard. She’s good. She pitched 3 of the four games against us, complete games, going 2-1. For the year she is the pitcher of record in 21 of 29 games for VPI going 18-3. This shows how different the pitching load can be in softball vs baseball.
It almost seems unfair to have one pitcher who can dominate like that. As was noted upthread, the double-header serves to break up the pitching load some. Virginia Tech hitting was also dominant in this series, so it was an all-around whooping. It ended on an upnote with the Game 4 win, so maybe there is some momentum leading into the next series against #10 Florida State.
Have to question the baseball IQ of the team here. Down 3-0 in the top of the 4th, two out, runner on third, 3-0 count to the clean-up hitter, runner on third breaks for home, stops half way, continues and is thrown out. Someone please tell me how that is good softball?
5-0 now.
