    This is the way my mother always said it. I didn't even know how the word was supposed to be said. The first time I heard somebody say it properly I was so confused.

    When I was learning to spell, I thought Fayetteville was spelled FED-ville b/c that was how I heard it pronounced.

    Some people can't settle on the pronunciation of "Beaufort."

    Nope, just the state. In SC, it is BYOO-furt

    In NC, the town is BOW-furt, but the county is BOO-furt, at least to the natives. My maternal grandmother's line is from BOO-furt county.
