^ ouch, yeah that's not impressive. Very unfortunate (if understandable) that three of our defensive leaders, including Tangelo, with eligibility remaining took off for more successful programs.

“And then I can say the same about Derrick. Derrick came in and it took him a couple of weeks to get into the program for some other health reasons and once he came into the program, it's been phenomenal. He too gained some weight as well. He's up to about 305 right now. But he put 65 pounds on his power clean just in the short time that he's been here. He was able to clean 350 and has done a nice job.”

Still, he continued, the experience for Tangelo has been challenging in certain respects.

“It's been a really big transition for him (in) the weight room, but especially those 14 running workouts we talked about,” Galt said. “We get a lot of work done in a short period of time. Our guys get in shape pretty quickly when they come in here as freshmen, but if you're an older player, that can be an adjustment.

"To Derrick's credit though, he's really done a great job catching on and the guys have been very supportive of him and he's almost there, so we got another few weeks ago and we feel good about it.”

Not a favorable comparison to the strength and conditioning Derrick got at Duke.
    Uh, yikes.

I don't know if anyone here listens to the Cover 3 podcast (I don't, or at least didn't), but this is a really good ACC Coastal preview. If you want to skip to the Duke stuff, it starts around 59:30.

Hm. Well, glad you found it! Yeah, the Duke part was a little bleak, it is really hard truly appreciate how awful we've been with turnovers.

In case anyone else is having trouble with the link, the episode is "Spring Gleaning: ACC Coastal (03/10)"

    Interesting FB Podcast

For those interested, I suggest for your approval, https://bullcitycoordinators.wordpress.com. In the interest of full disclosure, this is hosted by my youngest son, Ben Byrd. It's free and sadly, I get no compensation for bringing in listeners. He has some great interviews up with Carlos Wray, Todd DeLamielleure, David Reeves, Ben Erdeljac, Ross Martin, and some others. Interesting perspectives on the program and the lives outside of Duke football with some of our favorites. If you have some time to spare, give it a try. I think you'll like it.

Since this is not worthy of another thread, Duke has scheduled a Patriot League team in the future. Patriot League teams do not have scholarships. Have they changed the rule about a minimum number of scholarships required to count for bowl eligiblity? We already have NW and ND at home that year.

Lafayette is FCS same as NCCU, Elon and NC A&T so a win should count toward bowl eligibility. Furthermore, I believe Patriot League does offer scholarships.

They do, but it's a funky system.

Since the early 2000s, all sports EXCEPT football had "merit aid" for athletes. Then, in 2016 football was included.
The Patriot League will allow member schools to use merit aid on football beginning with the Class of 2016. Schools will have up to 15 scholarships for each class and a cap of 60 students receiving aid in the school as a whole.
    https://thecolgatemaroonnews.com/729...as%20a%20whole.

I keep tabs on that league every now and then since my parents lived in Lewisburg, PA for a few years, home of Bucknell. They actually had a decent basketball team at the time.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

Thanks. FCS has scholly and non-scholly teams, the latter do not count for a bowl game. Davidson is an example of the latter, which is why we don't play them when it would make a lot of sense.

I remember our game with NCCU that didn't count because we lost to Richmond in 2009. NCCU didn't have enough schollies to count if we had gone 6-6. Since we also host Clemson that year, I doubt a bowl is likely.

I'm assuming this will not be a home-and-home? Lafayette is within driving distance of me - will be driving through the area next weekend. It would be great to see Arch Manning play in person...

Thanks for another great article, Jim. There are lots of questions headed into the 2021 season.

    1. Quarterback - fourth starter in four seasons.
    2. Defensive line - will be young.
    3. Assistant Coaches - shuffled around extensively. Co-offensive coordinators have zero experience in the job.

    Wouldn’t miss it!

Currently showing Graham Barton (6’6” 315) working at left tackle. LT has been an issue for a while.
