I wouldn't bet against them this year, though.
I did a little digging and it looks like the last time Duke was picked last in the Coastal was... 2013. Of course, we were coming off of a bowl appearance and had some genuine star power returning in Crowder, Vernon, Cockrell, etc.
I'm confident Duke will finish behind Miami and that lot down the road. We also look to be behind Virginia/VT/Pitt, although there's no reason we shouldn't be competitive against those teams. And then there's GT and Duke, who unfortunately appear to be on opposite trajectories. With modest improvement, avoiding the cellar is possible. With significant improvement, moving into that middle tier should be the goal.
Duke football isn't for the faint of heart. We try to enjoy the games, but we keep expectations very low. Once again we're breaking in a new QB, even though it's his fourth year in the program.
Durant named to the All-ACC Preseason team. He's the only Duke player to make it.

Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."
Duke has added a fifth-year senior running back for the 2021 season.
Nakeie Montgomery.
Prepare to be shocked.

Nakeie Montgomery's Football Stats (High School)
https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/nak...ball/stats.htm
One season of varsity football at Episcopal School of Dallas. Ran for 88 yards on 7 carries in 2 games. Also 4 receptions for 21 yards. 1 TD.
One run of 97 yards... so the other 6 runs netted -9 yards. Clearly he only scratched the surface so there are many unknowns.
