When I was a kid, I remember my grandparents killing "white oak" and "red oak" snakes around the farm And always warning me to stay away from them. I wonder if that was the cottonmouth on the list. I never heard it called that until I was older.

Cottonmouths usually are found near water. What state? Never heard that term before.

[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Esstern North Carolina. I remember one of them looking like the cottonmouth in the picture. Sometimes they would be a light tan color, sometimes more of a pinkish red.

We always seems to find them in and around the corn crib. There was a big pond at the back of the farm in the woods, and a few streams, but no major wetland or anything.

Sounds to me like a corn snake. Again, harmless. On the cottonmouth, they are common in eastern NC.

Can we add cobras to the list?

A highly venomous pet snake has escaped and remains on the loose in Raleigh, North Carolina, police said early Tuesday. CBS affiliate WNCN reports that police sent an alert at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday warning that a zebra cobra, which is known to spit venom, was spotted on the porch of a home at around 5:10 p.m. Monday.

I'm sure there's a local church that could use him.

At least an escaped pet shark won't hurt anyone. Unless Sharknadoes are real.
