I generally favor an analytical approach over going by just gut feel, but I think Cash did not consider all of the data points. As Smoltz (who is a great announcer) observed, Snell had great command of all of his pitches all night, which isn't the case for any pitcher in most starts. His pitch load was low, and he had been dominating the top of the Dodgers' lineup. Meanwhile, the Dodgers had seen the Rays' relievers extensively in 5 games in the last week already, which often reduces effectiveness, which had not been great in earlier games either. I was very relieved as a Dodgers fan when Snell came out for a succession of pitchers the Dodgers had been hitting well.

I like the rule that a reliever has to pitch to at least 3 batters in an inning. There still were a lot of pitching changes but more between innings, so they didn't slow the games down as much. The rule tests specialists full skillset more and requires less obvious strategy decisions.

Oh so totally agree. He's instructive and clear and shuts up once in a while just to enjoy the game. His "Wow" when Snell pitched a sinker to get out of trouble was unaffected and quietly impressive.
As opposed to Buck, well, there's no comparison.

Smoltz hasn't missed a beat. The NFL is having to search for younger color men at a faster clip because older guys are starting to slow down and some are stuck with outdated references and observations, or so I'm told by my son.

Smoltz is my favorite announcer not only baseball but all sports. The guy's knowledge of baseball is amazing. My Cards were blessed to have him in the Bird on the Bat uniform for a short time.

As for your Tigers, how do you feel about the hiring of your new manager. Many fans are not too forgiving when it comes to cheating in their favorite sport. I'm on the other side of that argument. I've sinned too many times in my life not to be forgiving. Even some Uncheat players.
