Until our offense proves they can consistently score in the Red Zone, it is difficult to predict a victory.

Maybe we'll catch UVA in a trap game as they expect the win.

Ha, even if we have a horrific record, we may well qualify for a bowl! Every kid gets a certificate! I wasn't even sure there would be bowls, is the TV revenue alone enough to make them work?

If you have a .500 record...OR, you have less than 5 people on your roster with COVID, you qualify!

This season may well be like the Tour de France. Hell, if you make it to the end, you're a winner regardless of your position in the field.

I think we should be able to count "opponents cancel" as a win.

Hey now. Finishing any TdF is a major accomplishment. But the Tour is all about a single winner, which makes it a terrible example of participation-trophy nonsense, which is the point of this subthread. Aside from The Winner, there is the tiniest amount of recognition for two more podium finishers and the King of the Mountains, Young Rider, and Sprint champions. And that's it.

Everyone who survives 20 days of the TdF deserves the parade ride into Paris because the trip to the end is so brutal.

Not to derail this football thread, but I totally agree on both your and OPK's points. Anyone who can finish a TdF by making it to la ligne d'arrivée within the time cut for *every* stage (mind you) is a major accomplishment of which many people (including many cyclists) don't understand the difficulty. So yes, there's only one champion, but each rider who completes the arduous journey to Paris has every right to be extremely proud of what they've done.

Sorry, back to "that other sport".

Exactly. Finishing the TdF is not a participation trophy. It is the mark of an incredible athlete, and is rightly celebrated as such.

Unless they’re cheating and doping, of course. But I don’t want to draw UNC analogies into the thread.

Back to football! Screw the TdF and the bicycle they rode in on.

Keys to the game for Duke:

    1. Turnovers - ball security is paramount
    2. Red Zone Offense - execute and score TDs
    3. Special Teams - create some magic!

I agree with your intro and your keys are spot on.

Ha! Which I obviously "borrowed" (as I've been accused of not having any ideas of my own) from this tavern in Baltimore:

I’ve actually been to that bar, I seem to recall it being pretty tight quarters.

I hate to agree with you (truly), but this sounds about right. I'll be watching the game and probably getting loud at times as usual, but for all the wrong reasons. Heck, there might even be a four letter word or two uttered if the situation calls for it.

Let's start turning this ship around.
