The fact that TdF filtered into a football thread reflects pretty much exactly where the program is presently. 😢

I used to work near Fells Point and saw this bar pretty frequently. In addition to the great name, it's one of the oldest continuously operating bars in the US (open since 1775) and claims to be the last place Edgar Allen Poe drank at before he died: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/...imore-maryland

    Many Tour de France winners

Sorry, Bob, we'll be back to our regular schedule programming in a minute. I will tighten my chain and adjust my spokes as fast as I can.

As someone who has followed the Tour for many years [including bicycling some of the Tour segments -- which is a chastening, humbling experience] I would like to affirm that Tour fans do know how incredibly challenging finishing the Tour is, so they celebrate the ability and effort of all the riders. The final stage into Paris, in which the teams are no longer competing, but enjoying each other's camaraderie, is a powerful symbol of such and is rather unique in sports.

I also want to note that ALL of the classification winners [general, mountain, points, team, young rider, etc] are highly esteemed by Tour aficionados. The general classification podium winners are certainly celebrated as the best overall, but many of the specialists do not even strive to win the GC. Their team, fans and sponsors are hoping that they do well in their classification, such as mountain. In this regard, the Tour is very European -- more communal, less of a there is only one Winner mentality. Many Tour fans root for riders who are well known in their home countries to do well. So there many reasons for many Tour fans to feel good about after every Tour -- but it is much more than the participants being honored for just showing up, as OPK affirms.

Dang, forgot to bring my chain tension adjuster.
“I love it. Coach, when we came here, we had a three-hour meeting about the core values. If you really represent the core values, it means diving on the floor, sacrificing your body for your teammates, no matter how much you’re up by or how much you’re down by, always playing hard.” -- Zion

    Richmond Times on today’s game:

    https://richmond.com/sports/college/...b3ab2a706.html

Virginia has won five straight in the series, forcing 18 turnovers including five last year.

Duke must reverse that trend today and win the turnover battle.

    Matchup breakdowns:

    https://dailyprogress.com/sports/mat...44da4d520.html

    1. Defensive line is advantage Duke
    2. Push at quarterback and special teams
    3. Advantage Virginia everywhere else

Our wide receivers need to step up today and prove all the doubters wrong.

...outside of TE Noah Gray, Duke’s playmakers are few and far between.

We can strategically limit turnovers by using Wallace Wade/Ted Roof philosophies. Punt on 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd downs unless in FG position and don’t field punts. Do no TOs constitute a moral victory?

ah, memories of our quick kick infatuation...why spend three downs doing what you can do in two downs?

Steve Jones to the right, Jones to the left, Jones up the middle and Jones punts. Ahh, 1972 Mike McGee offense. LGD GTHc!

I liked Mike, as a person. He was old school, "our hosses can line up and beat your hosses."

Except we didn't have enough hosses.

Not going backwards on stupid penalties would help, too.

Yes it would. We shot ourselves in the foot multiple times last week with turnovers and penalties. It will take a clean game to leave Charlottesville victorious.

I'm gonna be a half-empty guy today, especially after the BC performance:

    Duke-10
    UVa-27

Having a change of heart (and sudden lack of common sense). No prediction here but I'm now calling the upset as Duke's offense comes to life and scores enough to get their first victory.
