For the purposes of this thread, and this thread only, skip the first 30 minutes of the podcast to get to the Duke at Notre Dame Game discussion.

Jason Evans stated he is excited to see two offensive players perform: Chase Brice and Damond Philyaw-Johnson. I agree. Everybody is excited to see Brice at QB and due to my following Damond on Twitter I know how hard he has been working preparing for this season. He broke out as a return specialist in 2019. I’m anxious to see him translate that success to wide receiver in 2020. We need a deep threat who can take the top off a defense. Our receiving corps in general is worth being excited about. Lots of talent available for Offensive Coordinator David Cutcliffe to mix and match.

Two additions I will make are Deon Jackson and Mataeo Durant. Everyone who frequents football threads on DBR knows about my obsession with running the ball so I spare you all my diatribe and simply state success in the passing game will open up the running game. Moreover, Jackson and Durant can both catch the ball so expect to see the five wide formation again this season.

No love for Jalon Calhoun? He showed some nice flashes last year.

I agree. Even though I didn’t single Calhoun out, I did make positive comments on our receiving corps as a whole.

Ha, with Cut replacing Roper at OC (can't underestimate the importance of demoting your top ranking staff member), a new OL coach and new QB, who knows?

I know what I DON'T want to see...runs on first and second down that net us about four yards, then a pass (on third and six) that goes to the tight end about three yards short of the first down marker. We had that play perfected last year.

Yep. Nor do we want to see a running back attempt a pass at the goal line.

Fabulous season preview from the gang at 247. Probably a little over optimistic but a great read none the less. https://247sports.com/college/duke/L...iew-151229196/

No need to mess with what works!
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

Agreed...very good read - thanks for the heads up! Re:your comment about it being overly optimistic though, I look at it this way. I've been overly optimistic when it comes to Duke football for about a half century now. Yes, even during The Dark Days...so why stop now?

I'll take this as an omen.

It’s all about gaining the extra 7-9 yards in field position before punting 😀

hey, don't sleep on those passes in the flat. they could certainly replace some of those first and second down runs, with about the same result!

It will be interesting to see what we get. My only regret is that I won't be able to complain about it with Bob and Devildeac in person this year!

Since when do the blue helmets have a BLACK Iron Duke D.

It's the Blue and White, not the Blue and Black (and most definitely we hope not the Black and Blue.)

The black Iron Duke decal pushed me in the direction to the word nearly. I, too, would have preferred the white D.

Especially since the black decal will likely be barely visible on TV. Gratuitous and pointless use of black if you ask me.

I know this must have been discussed already, but who is taking over at center?

If I'm not mistaken it's RJr Will Taylor.

That is consistent with the depth chart released this week

Correct, with freshman Graham Barton backing him up.

Cut evidently saw what fans saw last year...demoting Roper really had to be something he didn't enjoy doing...same for changing OL coaches...so us fans weren't too far off the mark last year.
