Just about 9 hours left (11:59pm PST) to get those picks in. And mr. synellinden needs to update his picks to shave off a point as (per Bob Green's astute eyesight) his point total is 31.

Loving the variety of picks so far!

    Welcome to the contest jv001!

With (by my count) 17 entries, here are the breakdown of players selected, along with # of teams they are on and their FedEx ranking:

    Thomas (#1): 11
    Morikawa (#2): 10
    Finau (#23): 9
    DeChambeau (#4): 8
    Berger (#7): 6
    Schauffele (#11): 5
    Johnson (#15): 4
    Ancer (#13): 4
    Day (#45): 4
    Simpson (#3): 3
    Wolff (#34): 3
    Casey (#55): 2
    Rahm (#10): 2
    Todd (#9): 2
    Hovland (#28): 2
    Streelman (#22): 2
    Im (#5): 2
    Woods (#49): 2

And then a bunch of guys who were selected by just one team and can thus be contest winners by themselves. Of these, the most interesting would seem to be those in the top-25 in the FedEx standings:
    Reed (#6)
McIlroy (#8, and last year's champ!)
    Griffin (#12)
    Matsuyama (#18)
    Champ (#20)
    Long (#21)
    Scheffler (#24)
    Horschel (#25)

Given the payout, if any of those guys win the TOUR Championship it will mean victory for said team, and most should qualify for all 3 events.

    Other notes/thoughts:
    - The top-15 in the FedEx are all represented here, which makes sense.
    - Two of the top-25 (Na and Munoz) were not included on any team.
    - Interesting that Finau (who I picked, admittedly) made so many squads despite being somewhat on the fringe of the FedEx top-30.
    - There was a variety of strategies, with some going for quantity (more darts at the top) and some going for quality (fewer bullets, but more top-end options). But everyone had between 5 and 7 players, with the modal team having 6.

    Let the fun begin!

Also, two people have Tyrrell Hatton (#14 in the world and #19 in FedEx Cup rankings) and I am the only person who picked Ryan Palmer (#36 in the world, #29 in FedEx Cup rankings).

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Finau was selected by almost everybody because he has been so consistent. He doesnt win much, but he is on the first two pages of the leaderboard a lot. He seems likely to stay within the top 30 or so and thus make it to all the events.
At least that was my reason for putting him on my team.

I am the other one with Hatton, but I also (alone!) have Rory, Hideki, and Leishman. This could be very interesting.

Mine as well. Even though he seems risky given his current rank, he feels safe in that he always seems to be around.

Day 1 -- Northern Trust -- Team Sage

Team Sage has been a total disappointment. Last in the PGA, so I shook up the roster.

    Justin Thomas
    Webb Simpson
    Collin Morikawa
    Tony Finau
The only one doing anything at all is JT at -3 and T30. The others were turrible!

And then with our point lefts, I wasted two home-team picks on Duke guys I like but will likely never win anything big. Adam Long and Kevin Streelman.

Let me check at how bad they did:
Adam Long at -3 and T30. Hmmm... better than all but one of my stars.

Streelman -- I can't find his score -- it must be awful. Wait a SECOND! HE SHOT -7 AND IS TIED FOR FIRST??!!! You gotta be kidding!!!

My throw-away picks did ten times better than my all-stars!

Yeah, you have the opportunity to absolutely run away with this if those guys hit it 2+ weeks from now.

Looking at least somewhat sage thus far at least!

My story is somewhat similar. JT was ok, but Morikawa/Finau/DeChambeau are a combined +1. Hovland (-3) and Wolff (-6) are carrying me so far.

    Scheffler!!!

    59.

Pretty cool. Only wish it were on TV so we could have watched. Makes no sense to me that they don’t broadcast the full day.

-9 through 8 holes. Wow. Likely going to shoot 26 or 27 on the front 9.

And just dropped it within 10 feet on 11. Hard to see him not end up in the 50s. As crazy as that is to say.
