Degenerate gamblers for the FedEx Cup

The FedEx Cup starts this week at TPC Boston for the Northern Trust. Anybody in?

    The rules:
    1. You have thirty OWGR "points" to spend on picking a team.
    2. You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
    3. You can pick up to 10 players, not more.
    4. Each player's "cost" is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Dustin Johnson "costs" 7: Jon Rahm - 8; Patrick Cantlay - 5; etc.
    5. Anyone whose OWGR points is less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
    6. Your final score is based on a total of the money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get 0 for that player.
    7. As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).

The FedEx Cup is a bit different in that it is a 3-week event over 3 tourneys, with each tournament hosting an increasingly smaller field. The top-125 compete at the Northern Trust, the top-70 go to the BMW, and the top-30 go to the Tour Championsip. The Tour Championship event then does an adjusted scoring which gives starting stroke advantages based on ranking coming in. Winner of that event wins the big prize.

    Let’s do this!

OK, CDu the not-so Sage One is in:

    Justin Thomas - 8
    Collin Morikawa - 7
    Webb Simpson - 7
    Tony Finau - 4
    Kevin Streelman - 2
    Adam Long - 2

I ain't going to sleep on Morikawa again unless he stumbles badly.

Would have had Tiger on my team, but not sure he wants to play three weeks in a row.

And, as usual, I personally like everyone on my team.

Looks like everyone's waiting on others to post. Okay, I'll put mine in:

    Thomas (8)
    Morikawa (7)
    DeChambeau (6)
    Finau (4)
    Hovland (3)
    Wolff (2)

Final score of TOUR championship: -18

ETA: Looks like Sage beat me to the punch, and we share three players. Time will tell how sage we both are. But I don't dislike your squad at all, sage!

With the early entries thus far, I'm liking that there is some variability in the "which top golfers" folks have chosen. Obviously the world's top-5 are well-represented, and there is of course some overlap. But unlike last year (where almost everyone had the red-hot Koepka), we already have a somewhat more diverse selection spread.

Will be interesting to see what other degenerates decide to do!

I started to make a team with Collin and Bryson and a bunch of lower ranked guys who I like or who are playing well (I had 9 guys lined up). Then I realized this is not the time to make a team like that because of the way fewer guys make the field each week. I noticed that entries were more top heavy and I'm guessing that's why. Either that or I have (once again) overthought this whole thing...

    My team:

    8 - JT
    7 - Collin
    6 - Bryson
    4 - Berger
    3 - Day
    2 - B.Todd

    Tie breaker -14, of course

    Let's give this a shot:

    My team:

    Finau (4)
    Woods (4)
    Hovland (3)
    Wolff (2)
    Cameron Smith (2)
    Justin Thomas (8)
    Morikawa (7)

    Tiebreaker (-11)

Quantity with a bit of quality...and Tiger cause of course (and if he does well we will all be kicking ourselves for not picking him up at a measly 4 points).

    Good luck.

Can't tell if this affects any existing teams, but Brooks Koepka has withdrawn, due to a hip injury.

I went with volume. I usually end up taking like 5 guys but I want more bullets in the gun this time. My bet is that one or two of these might miss the Tour Championship, but all that really matters if having the guy who wins. The difference in a player who finishes even 15th and one who misses the cut is rarely all that significant in these contests.

    Morikawa - 7
    DeChambeau - 6
    Finau - 4
    Hatton - 4
    Berger - 4
    Ancer - 3
    Palmer - 2

    Winning score -15

Frankly, I hate my own Tiger pick, but I couldn’t decide among the other 4 point players. And it would be really fun if Tiger makes a run. But I would be less surprised if he failed to finish this weekend than if he made it all the way to the Tour Championship
