    Football 2020

Jim Sumner has a new article up on the front page:

    https://www.dukebasketballreport.com...ke-blue-devils

Coach Cutcliffe met with the media virtually Friday afternoon. I started to place this post in the off season thread but it isn’t off season anymore so I started a new thread.

I know we talked about this briefly during the virtual pub last Saturday.

I’m more than a little disappointed that Duke, or any school, is expecting to play sports this school year.

Where is the leadership displayed by forcing the cancellation of the ACC basketball tournament?

Running back depth chart question for Jim. Are there any known candidates being considered to switch positions to running back? How about Eli Pancol? That’s a guy I’d like to see get more touches. Pancol had a nine-yard TD run against Georgia Tech last season.

Unfortunately, in addition to the depth problems at running back discussed by Jim, we also have serious depth problems and lack of experience at defensive tackle and linebacker. And now we learn that Chris Katrenick is currently our first team QB. This could be a long season, unless of course it is no season at all.

Out of Jim’s list of possible reasons why, I’m going with either #3 or #4.

Duke moved Myles Hudzick from DB to RB. But he opted out. I asked Matt Guerrieri today if any of Duke's DBs might be candidates for a position switch and he was kind of coy. I'll be writing this up later in the week.

When Myles Hudzick is (now was) your backup plan at RB, you know you have a serious problem.

But losing Brittain Brown was a blessing in disguise and we didn't need him anyway, doncha know.

I loved the way he played...but he'd get hurt just looking at the field...most unfortunate

I think his injury issues are overblown, there is no reason to think he won't be perfectly healthy this year.

Well since he won't be playing (due to PAC-12 cancelling), he definitely will be.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

First scrimmage today. That and more in this Fall Camp update:

    https://goduke.com/news/2020/8/21/fo...mp-update.aspx

Coach Cutcliffe says there is lots of competition so they will know more about position battles after the scrimmage.

Defensive co-coordinator Matt Guerrieri seems convinced cornerback Mark Gilbert is all the way back from his hip injury. That is great news!

The secondary is a team strength and a healthy Mark Gilbert, six interceptions in 2017 when he was 1st Team All ACC, combined with Duke’s talented edge rushers will cause opponent’s offensive coordinators sleepless nights.

If that's true, that is outstanding news!
