The Bullets didn’t change their name because of public pressure. The owner, Abe Pollin, didn’t like the associating with violence and crime. The murder of his friend (the Israeli PM) was a contributing factor too. No one told him it was the right thing to do, he knew it.
Rename the Washington Football team?
how about the DC Redskins?
Speaking of The Onion, I liked this one.
Jerry Jones Changes Team’s Name To Redskins Now That It’s Available
How about an unpronounceable symbol, and we can refer to them as "the team formerly known as the Redskins?"
It's worked before.
There is no doubt that it would be considered a negative thing to change the name to Warriors and keep the logo. Of course it would still be offensive.
It is not taboo to have a person as a logo, but it is taboo to have a person who represents an ethnic stereotype as a logo.
How about Washington Red-faced... Out of embarrassment? No?
How about "The Washington Treaty Breakers?"
Seems fair.
About 18 years ago my idea was this (since they don't even play in Washington):
The Greater Chesapeake Bay Area Indigenous Persons
I still think it could work. ;-)

Given they way they have played the last few years, how about the Washington Doormats?

I was going to suggest the Washington Monuments (and have seen that suggested) but much as the Nationals are called the Nats, the logical shortening of Monuments starts to cause problems...
To please the current administration they could be the Red Hats but that would also alienate a lot of people.
