Still call them the Redskins. Just change the logo to a potato.

The term "Warrior" can be applied to any soldier of any race. It is generic. However, ,"'Redtails" were all men of color. I like the Red Wolves one best.

Another supposedly frontrunning candidate I really like (though not as much as Redtails), is Redwolves (Or Red Wolves; not much clarity as to how it might be styled). This one seems especially likely in light of the recent reports that the preferred new name is mired in a trademark foulup. Arkansas State University and the Chattanooga Red Wolves, a 3rd-division pro soccer team, both currently claim trademarks on the name. ASU was first to adopt it (in further connection to this overall story, they adopted the nickname in 2008 after switching from "Indians") and the university and soccer club are already locked in a trademark battle of their own.
Here again, there's at least one logo mockup I really like:

I think it needs to be stylized as Redwolves, personally. I don't like two word mascots/nicknames.

    Exception that proves the rule?

And their nickname could be The Spuds.

If they lose, would the headline read "Washington Spuds are Mashed Again"?

At the very least, the defensive unit ought to strive to earn that nickname.

And I'm with budwom, the offensive unit should strive to be the Carvers ... carving up opponents' D.

One name is tough. I'm very amused by OldPhiKap's suggestion, but it sounds a bit too XFL or Arena League. The kind of team that would have Globo Gym as a sponsor.

How about the Maroons? There is precedent:

Plus, it's a nod to a favorite Bugs Bunny epithet, which will be apropos when the team stinks.

Carry on, you all are doing well.

Yep, that’s the one. And maybe even keep the Native American logo.

I'm pretty sure there is no way they're keeping the logo.

So when they get beat, they can be described as having been crushed.

Have you heard that to be the case? Would it be considered a negative thing to be named the Washington Warriors and have a Native American logo?

What if the Dallas Cowboys had decided to use an image of a cowboy as its logo (instead of their iconic star)? Is it taboo to have an image of a person as one’s logo? Is that why Wake Forest did away with their logo? I’m not trying to make a statement; I’m just asking for opinions.

After all the long, drawn out controversy over their name I don't think they can hang on to any part of it. I am aware that other teams still have references (implicit or explicit) to Native Americans, but I don't see any way that Washington maintains any such connection in their future identity.

Play on words - how about the DC Weigh Belts with this as their logo? I think it could catch on!

The most common suggestions I've seen on various WFT forums: Warriors, Red Wolves, Red Hawks and Redtails. The last one just won't do. Despite it's solid backstory it's just too easy.

Warriors without the Native American implications, honoring the military is a solid option.
Red Wolves is probably the most popular on the internet, seen lots of helmet mock ups.
Red Hawks has lost steam, was seeing it some a few weeks ago not so much right now.

The team colors (burgundy and gold) are not going to change.
Some say keep the helmet but when you see the mock ups for some of the newer names you realize how very dated it is.

Toughest thing is all the whiney posts by people that wont accept the name change. Don't believe 'Redskins' is racist (usually because they heard a NA person or a survey that's greater than 51%, etc). Sometimes people are too close to something to see the reality of it (can't see the forest for the trees). Kind of like UNCheat fans who still believe their program was clean and the whole fake class thing was just BS that all schools do (sorry, no).
