    Selling Puerto Rico?

You can't make this stuff up, at least I can't, I'm just not that imaginative...POTUS proposed selling Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria: https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/12/polit...ria/index.html

I hope he considered a straight up trade with Denmark, Greenland for Puerto Rico, with possibly an island to be named later thrown in...at this point maybe that island would be Manhattan?

Might as well sell it if we aren't going to even remotely take care of of it or its people. After the hurricane they have had a lot of earthquakes. One large one and hundreds of aftershocks. They are actually having well more aftershocks than they are having days. Now they are also dealing with the pandemic.
It is really tough in Puerto Rico right now, and it doesn't seem as though the American government really cares.

DBR. Who's with me? We can rename it to the Elizabeth King Island? I'll volunteer to be dictator.

I know you're looking for a new job. Dictator doesn't pay well but perks are great.

yes, our neglect is scandalous, but what can we do (until perhaps next year)?

You may have to wait your turn behind some of the DBR mods...they've put in the time.

I still want to know who the interested buyer would be? Who is looking to grow an empire these days?

I'd guess Denmark. They've done a good job with Greenland, after all.

Yeah, at this point there is no easy solution. Just wanted to point out the troubles that are happening to our friends in PR.

Beautiful place with wonderful people, albeit with poverty everywhere. I was there last summer doing some hurricane relief volunteer work.

I'll tell you who'd buy it in an instant: China. Think they'd like to have a big naval base there?

I'm still thinking they might do the trade for Greenland, avoid a lot of taxes that way

How about Russia? What if Russia had a military presence just offshore? That would be kooky!

We have so many good ideas! Here's another one, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Duke, Dave Rubenstein could arrange a leveraged buyout via his Carlyle Group...probably get a big big loan from Deutsch Bank, just about anybody can...

Irrelevant Puerto Rico anecdote: when I met my wife in the 1980s, she had a roommate whose family owned PR's largest rum distillery, Don Q. The roommate looked to be, like my wife, a typical tourist as she had been adopted from Scandinavia, and had bright blond hair and blue eyes. They went on vacation to PR one winter and got hassled by the cops for no apparent reason, but when the roommate showed her license and revealed her lineage, some world class bowing and scraping took place, nice police escort, abundant apologies. I think we need to look her up again...
