The once-in-a-lifetime idea was born when Wisner noticed that the snowy peaks on Colorado's Cow Mountain looked like ice cream floating in soda. The very next day (Aug. 19, 1893) he combined root beer and vanilla ice cream, creating what he called the “Black Cow.” Of course, nowadays it's known as the root beer float.

I thought a "Black Cow" was a root beer float made with chocolate ice cream, rather than vanilla? But then, I didn't search the interwebs to find out.

On a different part of today's celebrations, I'm not a huge fan of regular iced tea. Does it still count if I make a cocktail with Swedish Punsch? Swedish Punsch, for those who don't know, is a cocktail ingredient that uses a rum variant called Batavia-Arrack from Indonesia, combined with citrus, spices, and, most notably for present purposes, tea. It was popular in the early part of the 20th century, and I make it myself (although I think you can occasionally find some pre-bottled out there - try that interwebs thing). It makes a delicious summer drink served with tonic, white Port, and lime juice over ice. Technically that means it's got iced-tea in it, right?

Ice cream in root beer was a Black Cow where I grew up - in PA.

As Jim Sumner attested on another thread recently, "devildeac is a cardiologist and always looking for new patients." (I think I quoted him exactly but, if I didn't, Jim, please correct any mistakes. It will complement this thread quite nicely and I will be very complimentary of you if you would do that. Literally.)

Well I am not so much into root beer floats. I was tempted to do some egg rolls as I haven't done those for a while.
However, just had the fryer going last night with the scallop like clam muscles caught over the weekend, so I better pass.

Will be having some iced tea today as it's going to be a hot one here.

Save your calories today as tomorrow will be a great one and you'll need that margin (margarine?) of error.
