Yesterday, my wife and I started watching True Detective. We’re both liking it a lot. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are excellent.

I remember hearing a lot of discussion about the show back when it came out in 2014, and it sounded intriguing, but we weren’t watching tv series back then. I was reminded about the show because for the past six months I’ve been looking at various lists of best shows on HBO Max, and have discovered a lot of good ones that way.

Anyway, I highly recommend True Detective.

One of the tensest single shot sequences I’ve ever seen is in the first season. Forget which episode but you’ll know it when you see it.

Season One is excellent, excellent television.

That was hilarious - she is a perfect foil for Gervais. I should give After Life a shot. Based on those clips it looks very similar to the original The Office* except Ricky’s character doesn't appear to be an idiot.

    * Which I loved more than the American version. Unpopular take, I know. I can't help it - I just find the extra-dry subtlety of the British version hilarious.

Thanks. I never got around to seeing After Life when it was first done, but now that I know it includes Diane Morgan, too, it will get added to my list.

No, he is not an idiot at all in this show. In fact, it feels like he is the smartest person surrounded by idiots much of the time. There are a bunch of endearing characters he connects with over the course of the show who are quirky and not exactly the brightest bulb in the socket. The show is one of the finest mixes of humor and human tragedy that I have ever seen. I'm more than a little shocked it never got much Emmy consideration.
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Eh not so great. Saw first episode last night and to me it was a straight knockoff of Borat, but not nearly as creative or funny. She's pretty much trying to do exactly what Sacha did, but she's not nearly as good at it, and it's been done before. There's a lot more better stuff to watch right now than this. YMMV.

I watched Otto and the Fabelmans on recent flights. I liked both a lot. Otto was a nice combination of funny and emotional. Some might argue that it was overly contrived but I liked it. As a major rule follower I found it particularly entertaining. The evolution of his relationships was well done.

The Fabelmans was also entertaining. It was very predictable but that was ok. More development of the family relationships would have been nice but the themes about the development of his love for film were very well done.

It's a good thing Kang is a multiverse kinda guy, because in at least one of those he might not be played by Jonathan Majors.

On Monday, we learned that Marvel star Jonathan Majors is now without management or public relations company representation.

According to a late report from Deadline, talent agency Entertainment 360 and top PR firm, The Lede Company, have both severed ties with the actor. This decision is reportedly due to “issues surrounding the actor’s personal behavior.”

Speaking of future projects, this has to come in up there amongst the top bad ideas of the year.
Anyone watched the blockbuster and now-always-on-TV Twilight Zone movie lately?

Filming of the movie “Rust” will resume this week.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Rust Movie Productions told CNN that principal photography of “Rust” is set to resume Thursday at Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana.

Or The Crow with Brandon Lee. He died during filming also. I was an extra on Rapid Fire and stood next to him for a bit. I got chopped out of the scene when it was reformatted for video, I was visible in the theater version. Lower left corner of the opening scene if I recall correctly.

My kids have been extras on the righteous gemstones .you can barely see one in the baptism pool on 1st episode.
If you watch the outer banks .you'll see a barge with vehicles on it like they are taking them. The green Chevy truck blew the engine they bought it for 1k
From us .my son and his buddy used it as a I'll haul your junk away buisness in highschool . 3 years that motor knocked before it threw a rod.

Respectfully disagree. Cunk is way funnier than Borat and less political. I I don’t watch the show because I’ve seen all the clips on YouTube. I love it.

I agree with praise for S1 of True Detective. S2 is not as good but I love all the acoustic Lera Lynn scenes in the casino bar.

Ditto for After Life. Great show

The wife and I started watching The Diplomat on Netflix last night and it is really good. It starts slow but stick with it through the end of E1 and you’ll be hooked.

I saw Lera Lynn at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh several years ago. She opened for Joan Osborne. Great show!
Man, if your Mom made you wear that color when you were a baby, and you're still wearing it, it's time to grow up!

My wife and I finished True Detective season 1 last week. We both liked it a lot, especially Matthew McConaughey.

We’ve thus far watched 2.5 episodes of season 2. She’s liking it pretty well, but not nearly as much as season 1; I’m liking it less than she is. Should we abandon ship? And in which episode were the Lera Lynn scenes?

  19. #2719
Lera Lynn had a regular non-speaking role as the “house band” in the casino. I’m not sure which episodes but her appearances are scattered throughout. season 2.

It’s been awhile since I watched S2 but I don’t think it gets a lot better after the first few episodes. To me, it was kinda like Fargo in that the show started out great but got worse each season thereafter.

Rotten Tomatoes critic ratings fir True Detective:
    Season Rating
    1. 91%
    2. 52%
    3. 84%

I should note the audience reviews for season 2 weren’t as bad as the critic reviews. I personally thought season 2 was a mess.
