I'm only half joking when I say he probably has some kind of official enforcement/licensing deal with YouTube to keep the vid on their platform.

Anyone else catch The Many Saints of Newark yet? I thought it was pretty good, sometimes very good. They mis-billed it a little bit though. They understandably leaned into the 'how Tony Soprano became Tony Soprano' angle in marketing it but, while that's somewhat in there, it wasn't the thrust of the story. I also felt the portrayal of Tony's turn was unconvincing.

Other elements of the movie are really well done and answer some questions teed up in the Sopranos in a pretty satisfying way, IMO.

It is discussed just 4 posts before yours.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

Ah, I see them now. In my defense I did skim the previous few pages but mostly saw Ted Lasso and Venom!

Now that would be a movie I would see. Venom attached to Ted Lasso? Oh boy!

Any reviews on The Maid yet? I saw that it debut at 100% on Rotten Tomatos (96% now) which I thought was rare but apparently not http://www.rottentomatoes.com/top-tv/.
I liked Only Murderers in the Building and I’m currently enjoying Season 3 of Sex Education but 100% for both is a surprise. Russian Doll was another one that RT liked way more than I did.

    Squid Game (Netflix)

Didn't see a mention of Squid Game in this thread. Apparently it is so popular in SK that it's crashing servers:

    https://www.reuters.com/business/med...me-2021-10-01/

This is a dystopian thriller not unlike Alice in Borderland.

I have seen the first episode (1 hour long). It is nicely shot and has some cool sets, but the protagonists and antagonists are crudely drawn and are a bit cliche. I thought much more highly of Alice, until they made a point of leaving a lot of loose threads so as to facilitate a second season. I'm seeing more of that and I find it annoying in the thriller/mystery genre. So this one has a chance to wrap things up a bit more tightly and it's been hinted to me that they do (though not necessarily precluding future seasons). I'd also add that you get almost no insight to the antagonists (identity and motivation) in the first episode. It's bloody, but IMO not in a very realistic way, and therefore to me, not truly gory.

Not sure if I'll continue. I like the notion that there might be something at the end that clears a lot of mystery up. But that's 8 more hours and I am not all that interested so far - I do not care about the characters.

Would it be like Serena Williams in a Wonder Woman outfit?

Finally got around to Black Widow now that it is on Disney +.

I liked it. Fun movie, but nowhere near as good as the better Marvel movies.

Its easy to see how those shows got RT 100% ratings or close to it. It doesn’t mean the reviewers are raving about the show, it just means all of the reviewers rated the show as more positive than negative. So they could all rate the show at 6/10 and it would get RT 100% ratings. And who is going to say Only Murders in the Building is a *bad* show? True it isn’t “great art”
but it’s goal was just to be a fun romp. And it did a very good job of achieving this more modest goal.

Btw I really liked Russian Doll. I would give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Sex Education also would be hard to give a negative review to unless the reviewer disapproved of the pro-sex education message.

PS - Im watching The Maid now. I like it - its fun to watch Andie McDowell’s daughter blossom. But I don’t think it is a show for everyone. Some will get frustrated at some of the protagonist’s decisions and will find the show too message driven. But most reviewers are going to like the message and the idea of the maid’s POV being given a voice.

I’m almost through it. I’m enjoying it but not sure I understand the fandom but I’m no doubt missing cultural context and losing things to translation. I guess shouldn’t offer more commentary than that to avoid spoilers but i am invested enough to see it through to the end.

The wife and I love Sex Education. Really interesting characters. By the time you get to season 3, folks who were barely an afterthought in season 1 have suddenly become main characters and are fleshed out in some really interesting ways.

That said, I don't think I would send my kids to Mooredale for school. The show goes so over the top with some of the sex stuff that it is hard to continually root for the teenagers who are often acting really inappropriate and not exactly in the most healthy ways.

Still, when Rahim tossed the sock filled with poo out the window of the bus, I had tears rolling down my cheeks with laughter.

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Overlong, complicated, but still fun and full of eye candy, No Time To Die is right in the middle of the Daniel Craig James Bond films. Here is my 100-word review: https://flixchat.blogspot.com/2021/1...o-time-to.html

I concur with pretty much everything you wrote. This one is right in the middle of the Craig 'Bond' films.

Also, Trevor Lawrence is proof Carmela and Furio did in fact have an affair.

How did you get to see it early? It doesn't open in the US until Friday.

That's a pretty wide range. Craig has had some of the best and worst Bond films.

Technically I haven’t laid eyes on it. A very good friend of mine has and since we always see eye to eye on every film, and he has given me a complete rundown at my request, I am confident in my assertion. Once I actually watch it if anything in my opinion changes, I’ll come back here and say so. But I’m 100% confident that will not be the case. Based on everything I was told, your review will match up with the way I see the film. I can’t see that changing.

But I am absolutely sure that this film will rank number three out of the five Craig films, at least in my book. Casino Royale, Skyfall, No Time to Die, Spectre, and the putrid Quantum of Solace. Definitely in that order.
