Hot take: New DuckTales is better than old DuckTales.

Tom Cruise's character in Tropic Thunder, Les Grossman, very nearly got his own spin off movie.
In fact, according to Screen Rant, the reaction to Cruise's cameo was so well-received that it was actually scripted.
Although it was developed, nothing ever came of it - but that doesn't mean that it won't. We can dream, can't we?

We watched The Diplomat, a documentary about Richard Holbrooke, by his son. The section about the Dayton meetings to get Milosevic, etc to agree to a peace agreement is particularly compelling. Really underscores the value of strong diplomacy — and just how hard of a process it is.
The move to pull those guys out of the tempest to a base in Dayton, OH was brilliant.
Two nights ago I took a chance on an 80's movie that I'd never heard of.
Jane and The Lost City. It stars Sam Jones (Flash Gordon), Maude Adams, and some girl as Jane that can't keep her clothes on. Which is actually the premise of her character. Literally, everywhere she goes, something happens to make her clothes fall off. (She's got undergarments on, you pervs.)
It's a mix of Indiana Jones #1, Airplane, and The Gods Must Be Crazy. While it unsurprisingly never won any Oscars, it was worth wasting my brain cells on for an hour and a half.
On Prime.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

Watched Those Who Want Me Dead, Angelina Jolie's new flick, in which she plays a smokejumper. Don't cast her in a role where her character carries heavy things for living. Reminded me A LOT of Cliffhanger, except sly looked like he could do some of the job.
Croupier (1998), Clive Owen
A very entertaining film noir set in a London casino. Very much a character study rather than an action film.
Apparently marred by a couple plot holes, there may be explanations which lay beneath the surface. Some things are left to interpretation, but it helps to pay attention to & remember the dialogue and narration.
Refreshingly different; it's on Netflix.
Christoph Waltz tried his hand at directing...
...it did not go well. Here is my 100-word review of Georgetown (which just came to theaters and streaming this week): https://flixchat.blogspot.com/2021/0...eorgetown.html
Despite plenty of dramatic political intrigue connected to Mott, we just don’t care how it all turns out.

Anybody watching 'Tales from the Loop' on Amazon Prime? Really thoughtful, atmospheric sci-fi based on Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag's paintings like this one:

It's a unique series in that it has no intention of holding your hand and explicating everything. I also like that it's an anthology series, with 8 episodes in the same town and timeline, but each done by a different director and centered on different characters, so they meditate on different perspectives and angles of the same questions.
I'd say it's part Stranger Things, part Inception, with a dash of Terminator. Definitely worth a watch..
We watched Class Action Park, the documentary about the infamous water park in NJ. Holy heck, man, what a place!
I have been meaning to watch that - forgot about it and I was just thinking about it this weekend. I went there many times as a kid and managed to escape largely unharmed. The other nickname for it (the proper name was Action Park) was Traction Park.
A few weeks before Action Park permanently closed, while I was home from Duke for the summer, my aunt and uncle (ironically, both litigators) volunteered to host a few British kids who were about 14 and were here for a sports competition. They had a day off so I got volunteered to take them to Action Park. One of the kids got a stomach ache on the way so I took him to the infirmary and let the rest of the kids go in. While waiting with him I talked to some of the staff and they had incredible stories to tell about what came through. Luckily all of my charges got out without losing any blood or limbs.
It was a pretty big deal in the metro-NY area, particularly for those of us from Jersey. In the early days of the internet when everyone circulated those "you know you're from..." e-mails, the NJ ones always included "you know you're from NJ if you know someone who has been seriously injured at Action Park." Yet we kept going back for more. If you were smart about it, you could have a pretty safe, fun time - no need to go full speed on the Alpine Slide or to the deepest end of the Wave Pool.
In the winter it was a decent sized regional ski resort called Vernon Valley/Great Gorge. In its early days (before I was born) there was also a Playboy Club there. I think it is now still operating as a ski resort and water park and I'm assuming the water park is better run now - not racing to take my kids there anytime soon.
Unfortunately I don't get HBOMax but I think the movie comes out elsewhere soon so I will definitely check it out.
I remember when the death toll started to mount. Seemed to be a NJ problem since the Six Flags Haunted House caught on fire and killed a bunch of people when I was a kid as well.
