Not if you include Don Henley‘s work in the Eagles canon. “Sunset Grill” “End of the Innocence” those two alone are dang close to rock anthems.

Don’t listen to either of them much any more. Give me Los Lobos or Drive-By Truckers over either of them all day, every day.

Well, Steven Tyler has been making news for other reasons.

Aerosmith was/is a very good rock band. The Eagles defined a whole genre of music.

Both are good, but for me it’s apples and oranges.

And IMHO, neither can lay claim to the greatest American rock band. But it’s a purely subjective and ever-shifting list.

Both should be proud of their body of work.

This post deserves more Sporkz than one man can give.

Southern Rock Opera, and any song written by Jason Isbell in his time with DBT, is fantastic.

“Goddamn Lonely Love” sits right next to “Elephant” on my personal list of Isbell’s best. The use of the C minor sixth is pure genius.

For the sake of historical accuracy, I am constrained to point out that Dillard & Clark, the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Poco all got there first. In fact, the original Eagles lineup included alumni of both the Burritos and Poco, and when the first bass player they poached from Poco left, they poached another bass player from Poco.

For sweet multi-part high harmonies, nobody ever came close to Furay/Grantham/Schmitt.

I’m a hard core Americana fan who never quite got Jason Isabel like others, much the way I never quite got Wilco or Ryan Adams. I like them I just don’t love them or consider them all time great level songwriters.

Despite all the cut-throat business like antics by Glen Frey and Don Henley, their catalogue of music stands up as far superior to Aerosmith. I generally detest power rock ballads but I would acknowledge that Dream On is a good song. However, Aerosmith has been blowing pure cheese since the 70s. I don’t see a fair comparison between the bodies of work at all.

If we are determined to compare American 70s rock, I'm going Bruce.

I initially read that as I’m going Butch.
