    Offseason Lax News and Notes

College Crosse is reporting that Albany head coach Scott Marr (a teammate of Petro and Quint and a Hop lacrosse parent) has removed himself from consideration for the Hop head coaching job.

That appears to leave Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen and Richmond head coach Dan Chemotti as the front-runners.

Inside Lacrosse posted an article yesterday indicating that Chemotti would not leave Richmond for the JHU job.

In case the Pietramala departure was news to you as it was to me: here you go.

It’s hard to imagine Hop without him, but at the same time they have not had the results that their program tradition would dictate for quite a while. It’s not totally shocking that they’d start to look elsewhere.

Nadelen appears to be the heir apparent here.

At least Nadelen won't have to move.

    Aw, hell.

USC’s Kerrigan Miller, the top senior women’s player currently listed in the transfer portal, has chosen to play for the Cheats in 2021.

Per syracuse.com, the ACC will not alter its conference rotation in 2021 due to Covid-19. Thus, if you want to see 9F in person, bring your airline bags. UVA and ND come to Durham while Duke will also go to the Dome.

Seems like a big deal. Let’s Go Duke!

I like how in that article they say pending admission to Fuqua. I think Sowers will be fine with that coming from Princeton.

Cornell elevates assistant Connor Buczek to interim head coach for the 2021 season.

Announcement says that the school will conduct a search when the current hiring freeze is lifted.

J.T. wasn’t selected in this week’s MLL draft.

There are only two scenarios in which that makes sense: either (1) the word is out that he is signing with the PLL, or (2) the word is out that he is coming back to Duke.

I'll take door number two...would be fabulous to have him back...

New Hop head coach Peter Milliman wasted little time in assembling a staff.

Jamison Koestete as defensive coordinator looks like a very solid choice. In four seasons at UMBC, he took the Retrievers’ D from bad to really good. In addition, as a member of Hop’s 2005 and 2007 championship teams, he provides a link to alumni and program traditions.

John Grant, Jr. as offensive coordinator is splashy but carries a bit of risk. Yes, he’s a legend as a player, but his coaching resume is a little thin (two seasons at AirForce). We’ll see how this plays out.

J.T. was also passed over in the PLL draft—in which six of the 14 picks were poles.

Nothing is official until it’s official, but there is certainly plenty of reason to believe he’s coming back.

With all these seniors potentially coming back, the Princeton transfer, and a great incoming class, is it likely that Duke is ranked preseason #1?

Postseason is what counts. But I'd like preseason too.

Potentially lots of other schools have returning seniors and transfers, except the Ivy League. Could be a "loaded" season all around. Interesting to see how coaches handle personnel issues. Will rising seniors who expected a leading role be disgruntled because of returning 5th years and transfers. Will any recruits renege in the face of having to wait for playing time? Will any recruits opt for a gap year, or prep school? Our coach has been through this, but most other coaches have not. Still, next year could be a special year in college lacrosse.

There will be a lot of good teams (Ivy League not so much given the fifth year rule) but Duke has the trifecta (among other things) of adding Michael Sowers (Tewaarton favorite), Joe Robertson (leading scorer previously who sat out last year with ACL injury) and lax savant freshman Brennan O'Neill...that is humongous firepower...and we have a coach to knows how to mold and improve teams as the season wears on...

And don’t forget Dyson Williams, a rising star.
