    Best Threads Ever?

    Hello!
Went looking for some college basketball forums in research for an upcoming podcast. Came across DBR and was blown away at the community here - I think a lot of people on the outside have negative preconceptions on Duke fans and you guys are great. I wanted to to a podcast episode on the community here and some of the best posts of all time. If you guys have a list of some of the best threads/posts here I would appreciate if you shared them.

    Thanks so much,
    Harrison

P.S. Some great threads I have found in many hours of searching the archives

Despite what you may have heard, Duke fans are great

I found this from me in one of the threads you referenced

    Hyperbole

Just as the 2008-2009 Tar Heels are the best college basketball team of all time, Curry is the best passer in college basketball history. He is a very good player and an underrated passer as most see him as a very good shooter. He can be a point guard at the next level- but as we saw in the Duke game- his decision making is not quite there yet. Curry has a lot of room for growth. He could be Steve Nash in a few years- a ball player with a high IQ and not a lot of leaping ability and explosiveness who made himself into one of the best in the game by working very, very hard.

Not too bad for an 11 year old prediction

I saw that - pretty impressive! It was pretty funny to read Steph being referred to as "Seth's Brother" like in this thread haha - https://forums.dukebasketballreport...other-1st-team

Yes - a funny group here and many old timers with long memories. And if you don’t know your stuff or are not careful about your research - someone will call you out. This place makes you a better more knowledgeable basketball fan- not just a better Duke fan.

Everything you said is accurate. DBR is phenomenal. And I’m speaking from the point of view of someone who has been many times humbled on here. But I’ve learned a heckuva lot.

Speaking of all-time posts, I wish someone could dig up that series of posts by the DBR poster (whose name I forget) who about 9 or 10 years ago made the case for Brian Zoubek being some kind of transcendent center who understood and played the game on a higher level than just about anyone else.

I would read those posts thinking I was either hallucinating or perhaps just did not understand the game of basketball at all. It was awesome, nonetheless. Please, someone find those posts.

I do give you props for being a newish poster who adjusted well to feedback - sometimes less polite than others. I claim responsibility for giving you a hard time early on. Some of us long timers get a little territorial about our soace.

Hey, I get that; it’s only fair. It’s sink or swim on DBR. You’d better bring it with legit commentary backed up convincingly or you will pay the price. I accept that and have actually learned to love it, even when I get put in my place. And you are one of the better posters, by the way.

You can not put together a list of top threads on DBR without this thread

    https://forums.dukebasketballreport...light=kentucky

Folks are always surprised by the content, but it has some of the best restaurant recommendations I have ever seen.

And that thread should always be followed with a thirst-quenching reference to this one:

    looking at predictions

We just had a thread where we pretended to have DBR in 1991- looking forward to the 1991 tourney when Duke won its first championship. We pretended not to know the future but made predictions because we already knew them- a little shelter-at-home entertainment- even getting some of us to rewatch the games from almost 30 years ago. That said- it would be interesting to look through some of the predictions of players based on our impressions from the McDonald's games and the Blue and White Scrimmage - to see who was right and who was very wrong. Yes- I am looking for sports entertainment wherever I can find it these days.

one thing I’ve learned to appreciate: when someone starts a thread, everyone who has anything to say on that topic posts to that thread. At other forums that shall remain nameless, you can find, for example, half a dozen threads about the result of one game.

best thread ever on dbr has to be the Coronavirus thread (select “off-topic” forum first). It may well save your life. It’s truly amazing to discover that we have multiple Drs with relevant experience.

Not sure if this was on your original list, but a hallmark moment in DBR fame was when Shane Battier himself made an appearance and posted a message or two on the board.

Also the cinderblock discussion (which centered around the recruitment of Tyler Adams and trying to estimate his wingspan based on the number of cinderblocks in the wall behind him) was great and pretty indicative of the types of wild tangents that our readers often follow.

Does anyone know how far back the Duke v Kentucky thread history goes? I know its a pretty long standing thing (with the linked thread being the most recent incarnation).

Yea, I've searched on several occasions and *think* I've found several Duke vs Kentucky threads but, if -jk or Devil84, each of whom have far, far, far better search skills than what I'm equipped with, desire/can perform a mega-merge, then we might all be happier folks discussing 'cue on DBR...
